Don't forget the motherboard problem with Sandy bridge chips!!

A problem with P and H Sata 3 connections.

Check online for latest.

Intel have a huge problem, not likely to be sorted until April.

"Huge" problem? They just need to produce a lot of chips. And to be honest, this is not a major issue with the mobo - I'm actually unsure about whether I'll bother taking advantage of the recall to get a replacement. I have 4 SATA 3 ports, and since they are backwards compatible I can run even SATA1 on those and not be at any risk at all.

And even when using the SATA2 ports - the ones that are affected, NOT the SATA3 ports as you state - you are looking at a 5 to 15% chance of seeing performance degradation on a two year perspective. My machine expects to be replaced by that time anyhow, so... :P

And let's be clear about this - the SATA 3 ports are unaffected. It's the SATA 2 ports controlled by Cougar Point that are affected. Do not confuse them due to their speeds:

SATA1 has a 1.5 Gbps peak bandwidth

SATA2 has a 3 Gbps peak bandwidth

SATA3 has a 6 Gbps peak bandwidth

Oh, and as far as processor choice in the Sandy line - you'll probably be quite fine with an i5 2500K. Slashes a third of the pricetag, but the only real sacrifice is HT and part of the L3 cache. If money is an object, then that's definitely the better purchase.

You know, if you're wondering about the cost of already existing CPU's all you have to do is just google it and find PC stores that sell it

Gigabyte and ASUS have already started shipping.

As you can see in the Anandtech article: 6Gbps ports not affected. SATA3 is 6Gbps. It is the 3Gbps ports that is affected - that is, SATA2.
