ColGray Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 First off, my apologies to those who have answered this before, i couldn't find anything in search... MY question is, how do i trim the aircraft for say; level flight, Aerial refueling, etc.etc I've trim trim aircraft up command and that seems to barely tweak the nose in autopilot, then i tried stick to trimmer mode and i dont know what that did. so what am i doing wrong:joystick: The State Military (CVW-17) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] VICTORY 104 F-14B BuNo 161442 VF-103 LTJG J. “Shades” Gray http://www.statelyfe.com Win-10 x64 EVGA 2070 FTW Thermaltake 850w Intel I7-8700K at 3.7 Ghz 32GB Corsair DDR4 at 3000mhz
EtherealN Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Do you have a track? Trimming is simple - look at the stick while trimming. It'll move. You are changing the centre-point. Nate--IRL-- Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Make sure Force feedback is OFF in the options. If it is on it changes the way Trimming works and unless you have a FFB stick it breaks trimming completely. ColGray Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 Ok. but what is the process or which buttons do i use and do i hold it while i adjust the stick The State Military (CVW-17) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] VICTORY 104 F-14B BuNo 161442 VF-103 LTJG J. “Shades” Gray http://www.statelyfe.com Win-10 x64 EVGA 2070 FTW Thermaltake 850w Intel I7-8700K at 3.7 Ghz 32GB Corsair DDR4 at 3000mhz
EtherealN Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The process is simple: if you find yourself needing to apply forward pressure to keep the plane in a constant attitude, tap Trim Up* until you no longer need to do so. Same if you have an uneven payload and find yourself needing to keep stick to the right to stay level - tap Trim Right until fixed. You find the settings through going to Options > Controls > A-10C Sim > HOTAS, scroll down and you have a bunch of Trim commands. Recommend setting them to a stick hatswitch. *EDIT My bad, it's name in the settings is "Trim: Nose Down", I have it mapped to Hatswitch Up though, to make it mirror the other stick controls. nomdeplume Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I've trim trim aircraft up command and that seems to barely tweak the nose in autopilot I don't think trying to adjust trim while the autopilot is engaged is a good idea. Normally you should trim the aircraft into a reasonably stable configuration before engaging AP, not the other way around. :) then i tried stick to trimmer mode and i don't know what that did. so what am i doing wrong The alternate mode is a bit different. If I recall correctly, while you hold down the 'stick to trimmer' button, movements of the stick (i.e. what would normally move the elevators/ailerons) will be converted into slight trim inputs. It allows you to make very fine adjustments to the trim. You can use the controls indicator (RCtrl+Enter) to see its effect. Personally I don't use it. The standard trim is sufficient for most cases; it does tend to be a little coarse, but there's so many constantly changing parameters in flight getting perfectly trimmed seems a bit of a pointless exercise. YMMV.
HiJack Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I sure hope ED adds the same possibility as in FC2 to link all TRIM axes to the WHEELS on X-52! I miss that in DCS A-10C. Same with the MOUSE_Z axis link possibility with cockpit ZOOM. (HJ)
Heli Shed Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Trimming is completely relative to your aircraft speed. Fly 'Wet', Hands on, use AP, pitch, AH, thats what it's there for. Trim when you NEED to. Uneven weight distribution under wing surfaces or damaged airframe. IMHO, it's a matter of personal choice and in no way mandatory. i fly in formation 'Hands on' I fly lead on AP. Horses for courses, whatever takes ya fancy. ColGray Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 Well i tried using the hat switch exactly the way you described and got zero response just kept climbing and banking The State Military (CVW-17) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] VICTORY 104 F-14B BuNo 161442 VF-103 LTJG J. “Shades” Gray http://www.statelyfe.com Win-10 x64 EVGA 2070 FTW Thermaltake 850w Intel I7-8700K at 3.7 Ghz 32GB Corsair DDR4 at 3000mhz
evilnate Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Well i tried using the hat switch exactly the way you described and got zero response just kept climbing and banking My guess is that your joystick is off center. Have you checked to see if this is the problem with windows control panel?
ColGray Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 No i found the problem, my joystick wasnt recognized... that fixed the problem The State Military (CVW-17) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] VICTORY 104 F-14B BuNo 161442 VF-103 LTJG J. “Shades” Gray http://www.statelyfe.com Win-10 x64 EVGA 2070 FTW Thermaltake 850w Intel I7-8700K at 3.7 Ghz 32GB Corsair DDR4 at 3000mhz
Nate--IRL-- Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Well i tried using the hat switch exactly the way you described and got zero response just kept climbing and banking Edit:- Ignore below, glad you got it fixed. Just to go over the little things first, so I can be sure if there is a problem with DCS.... Can you check Force feedback is disabled in the options (MISC Menu)? Also Check that your Hat switch is actually assigned to control the Trim in the options. Also try Holding the Right CTRL button and ; this should trim your nose down.
