razorseal Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 What are my other options for a HOTAS setup that's not over 400 dollars? X52 pro is the only one I can think of around 150, but is that really a HOTAS? (not really) I like those MFDs too, those are affordable as well at least
EtherealN Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 x52 Pro is a real HOTAS. Why wouldn't it be? "Hands On Throttle And Stick" Also, wrong section. I'll move it for you. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
razorseal Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 ahh thanks for moving it. It is HOTAS, that's true... I meant mimicing the A10 close as possible. does the X52 Pro work well with the A10 sim? does the 'mfd' thingy work with the A10? I also looked at the G940. that looks nice as well... I honestly don't care about the rudder though. the X52 has the pivoting stick so that's sufficient.
EtherealN Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I would not agree that pivoting stick is enough, but that's my bias. :P I don't use the Pro, so I can't say much about it, but my x52 non-pro works quite fine with A10. But as far as "mimicing" the A10 there really is no substitute to the Hog Stick. You either get that one and get a replica, or you get any other hotas on the market and have to make tonnes of compromises. razorseal Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 I think i'm gonna settle for a X52 Pro... they got some on amazon with prime shipping for only 123 bucks. does DCS support the MFD on the pro for the A10?
EinsteinEP Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I have the X52 Pro and it works great with A-10C. I'd say it's not much different, functionally, than the "vanilla" X52. The trick, in my humble opinion, is laying out your buttons and functions to get the functionality you need/want. Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.
razorseal Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 what is this 'mag' mod people talk about?

MFD's works fine with X52 Pro. I used them together before buying the TM Warthog. Btw, there are some excellent X52 Pro profiles for A-10. The MFD's are plug & play with the game so no need to config those :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I7 3930K. 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz. Asus P9X79 Deluxe. Asus GTX680 2Gb. Auzentech Home Theater 3D Sound. Revvin Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 What about spreading the cost? You could buy say a CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle, or maybe a Fighterstick and Pro Pedals or just one at a time. With a bit of patience and saving some money you could end up with a really good HOTAS that isn't prone to fall apart or suddenly die on you and is very programmable.

I messed aruond with a X52 once. the spring to center was SO weak that if I blew hard on the joystick, I would move it with just my exhale... lol
Revvin Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 The spring tension is quite light on the Fighterstick and Combatstick though a small mod will make them a little stiffer. Personally I like the light tough as I have a hard enough time fighting the enemy aircraft around me let alone fighting spring tension. I've had my CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle now for 8 approximately 8 years and they still feel as good as the day I took them out of the box. The software has been kept up to date so there are no issues running it on Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 for that matter 32 or 64 Bit and it is still in my opinion the best software available for programming joysticks. The good thing about the software is that as you buy more controllers you don't need to start from scratch with your programming for it you just simply add the new device to your existing profile. I did this with my IL-2 profile which started with a Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals and I added a Throttle Quadrant, Yoke, Trackball and Multi Function Panel all in one profile. With a small script I was also able to switch the X and Y axis for pitch and roll between the Fighterstick and Yoke at the touch of a button so if I wanted to fly a bomber or P38 I didn't need to leave the sim to load a new profile I could switch back and fore by pressing a button on my joystick.
