rextar Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Guys ive just done a mission were a sam has to be taken out with gbu 12 Fine, But is there something om missing here?? I could NOT lock the designator due to the fact Of the cloud base, and couldnt see anything other than cloud!! BiPod Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I'm not 100% sure what you mean here, but did you try switching to FLIR. The TGP will see through clouds with WHOT or BHOT but not with the CCD. I don't know how thick the clouds have to be before the FLIR will not penetrate. If this is not your problem, please ignore my solution. BiPod.
rextar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Sorry no track its a mission Got it mission "the shore 06" I might be doing something wrong here, but with only keyboard i might not be engaging thermal? Have to root the keyboard command!! Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
BiPod Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 FLIR BHOT = Boat Forward = Right+RAlt FLIR WHOT = Boat Aft = Left+RAlt CCD = Boat Center = Down+RAlt Boy I'm in a helpful mood today! 1
rextar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Thx bipod yeah just trowled the manual!!! Hope thats case closed!! Will try mission again!!!! Thx u guys God this sim is amazing!!! Whambam Jiggyjam Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Bring JDAMs instead? You could try pointing the target, climbing above the cloud cover and dropping the bomb through the clouds. I've also found that if I skim the very top of the cloud cover, I can see right through it which feels a bit like cheating. Not sure if the laser would still work doing that, however.
rextar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Still not right tgrt should be able to penetrate though clouds Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
slug88 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Still not right tgrt should be able to penetrate though clouds Wrong. Thermal imaging will not let you see through clouds in real life. Infra red radiation is highly attenuated by moisture, much more so than visible light. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rextar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 On that case then theres no way to see a target through clouds?? Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12

rextar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Yes as i said whats the point in the mission if you cannot deliver ordernance!!! Gbu 12 is the selected weapon for mission and you CANNOT employ them. Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
boycey0211 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 change your weapons using the flight planner dude, i do this regularly as the set loadouts seem retarded sometimes and wrong for the mission. And to second the point of FLIR only works in clear weather, which is true, why do you think wars are only fought in sunny countries these days.... 1
rextar Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Well every days a school dsy here! So is there such a system that can deliver through cloud base ? Flir i mean Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
BiPod Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Wrong. Thermal imaging will not let you see through clouds in real life. Infra red radiation is highly attenuated by moisture, much more so than visible light. Seems no one has told Kollsman (Elbit Systems) this. They sell FLIR systems to allow you to see through fog. Game on;), BiPod. 1
rextar Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 :(Shame it cannot be implimented into ED Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
BiPod Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 :(Shame it cannot be implimented into ED It is. I've done it. (Jumps up and down hoping I'm not just insane.) ...but to quote myself from post 3 "I don't know how thick the clouds have to be before the FLIR will not penetrate." BiPod.
BiPod Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Perhaps the OPs clouds were just too thick, but as you can see here both the TGP FLIR and the IR Mavericks have no problem seeing through light clouds. @ Slugg88 There seems to be a lot of people out there that agree with you, so maybe its not a simple issue.
nomdeplume Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Individual clouds don't seem to be a problem. Thick clouds (density in the mission editor >= 8, I think) do block the IR, unless you happen to be inside the clouds. Might be a bug, or there might be some kind of modeling of cloud thickness affecting the ability of IR to see through it. In some of the missions that take place in soup, if you're skimming at the top of it, it'll be opaque to the IR sensors. If you dip down into it, suddenly you can see clearly.
BiPod Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Spot on nomdeplume:thumbup:. After reading your post I gave it a go. Clouds were IR transparent up until level 8 then opaque at level 10 (maximum). Ditto for the rest of your post. I deliberately chose tiny clouds for my pics above so you could see their edges on the CCD images, but it works on much bigger clouds. @Rextar I checked your mission in the editor and it is level 10 clouds:( So this entire thread is no help to you:(, but at least I learn't some stuff even if no one else did. I can't run the mission in question (crashes on loading) but the editor says the clouds only come to 1400 meters (4600 feet) and the target is on a summit at 6000 feet ("above the cloud deck"). So it should be poking through. I won't help you any further as I can't run the mission, but are you sure you are getting the coordinates properly from the JTAC? BiPod.
rextar Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Yeah thx for all the replys guys i hope this thread helped Great stuff as always! Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
Lonecrow66 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 just reflown mission guys and the trgt pod will not see through clouds bhot,or whot any ideas? I had the same problem actually.. I ended up giving up and just staying as low to the ground as I could. The TGP just doesn't see through thick cloud cover. --- May your takeoffs equal your landings!
