Conuk Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 OK I know the more free memory the better... At present Im running Kaspersky AV with Sygate Personal firewall... before loading up Lomac... should I exit these 2 programs ? Or `block all` with Sygate and disable `real time protection` with Kaspersky ? Ive not flown online - but do you guys fly online with firewalls stopped ? Curious....
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 only problem ive had is when the firewall hasnt been configured properly to allow lomac threw, and it would mess up the game, but that would happen right at the begining i.e first time you start the game after you have installed it,once configured it was no problem, I use sygate pro and its better than the majority of firewalls out there, as for AV I wouldnt turn it off, no harm done if you do as i have done many times in the past to play online but now my personal preference is to leave it on same with firewall. Also it all depends on your system, if you have got good rig then just leave them on, if you dont and say you only got 512mb or less of memory I would turn off the AV when playing lomac.
kickass Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Gamers antivirus protection is F-prot, DrWeb or NOD32. These three comparing to Norton or Kaspersky using minimum system resources. If you using Kaspersky, Norton or McAfee it will make your P4 3ghz to work like P4 2.4Ghz...
Kevlon Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Gamers antivirus protection is F-prot, DrWeb or NOD32. These three comparing to Norton or Kaspersky using minimum system resources. If you using Kaspersky, Norton or McAfee it will make your P4 3ghz to work like P4 2.4Ghz... is that correct? it takes that much resources for the cpu? I am using Trend Micro, how is that compared to gaming? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SUBS17 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Gamers antivirus protection is F-prot, DrWeb or NOD32. These three comparing to Norton or Kaspersky using minimum system resources. If you using Kaspersky, Norton or McAfee it will make your P4 3ghz to work like P4 2.4Ghz... I have a P4 2.4gig with 1gig Ram with a firewall and it works ok online. The important thing is to allow lockon internet access in your configuration. What can happen is a player who sets it up incorrectly can block incoming data resulting in a 0 ping! When this happens other players can see you but you can't see other players. So if you run into this problem then its because of your firewall. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Hitman IF Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I always leave my Sygate Personal Firewall and my AntiVir running while I play while connected. ---SVBS squad is playing Lock On, ADF/TAW and Typhoon now at www.svbs.co.uk !---
GGTharos Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 If you're running behind a router (a good idea) then you can disable teh firewall on your PC - it's not needed, the router takes care of that function. You can also get rid of the active protection of your AV and just do regular scans - but then again, what sort of sites are surfing if you need 'active protection'? ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
kickass Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 hi You guys who running Norton, Kaspersky or McAfee and Zone Alarm uninstall it and install F-prot or Nod32 and you would see what I am talking about!
