Conure Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 After 10 years of flight simming using a HAT switch, I just purchased a TrackIR5 from flightstore.co.uk.. I hope it is as immersive as I have heard! Will it just click on top of my headphones? Can't wait :D Not more slowly panning round to click buttons... Any advise to minimise setup issues?? Conure Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Cheers :) Btw...I'm a little worried...I have a standard headset and noticed there is a TRACKIR clip thingy you can buy...Will standard TrackIR not fit to my headphones? Tracer2k Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) Congrats, im sure you will not regret your purchase! If you ordered the track clip pro, it will fit in to most headphones, and if not, DUCT TAPE!!!11 ;) Edit: The standard track clip is supposed to be used with a baseball cap Edited March 7, 2011 by Tracer2k WOOOOoooooo ------------------------------------------------------ AMD Phenom II x6 1090T 3.2GHz Black edition 8GB DDR3 1333 GeForce GTX580 Windows 7 64bit ------------------------------------------------------
WynnTTr Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Normal TrackIR only comes with a band that sits on the peak of your cap that's got 3 reflectors on it. Hence no clip if you use headphones. You've got to wear something that the reflectors can sit on top of. The camera itself will emit the IR light and pick up the reflectors. This works and is still good but lights behind you (like if your back is to a window) will throw off TrackIR. Also if you move your head out of view of the camera it'll lose tracking until you bring your head back up in front of the camera. The clip is the TrackclipPro which has a clip and three IR emitters on it hence it needs to be plugged into your machine for power. But this means that it's more accurate and doesn't lose tracking as much. Obviously if you turn your head completely so that all three emitters aren't in view you'll lose track. Either way works and yeah, you'll be kicking yourself on why you didn't buy TIR earlier. It truly will raise your simming experience to another level.
Conure Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) Hmm, thanks for the reply guys - though I'm still a little unsure...I think that for now I can manage without attaching it to headphones - So basically, if I have the standard trackIR5 and a baseball cap, I'm set to go...But if I want to attach it to my headphones, I'll need the trackclip pro? Thanks :) Edited March 7, 2011 by Conure Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
S77th-konkussion Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 You've been doing this 10 years without a track ir? ........ I barely lasted 10 days after leaving Nova World for the last time... Anyway- there are 2 types of clips. NP calls them "Track Clip" and "Track Clip Pro". The regular clip comes with the package- fits on the brim of any ball cap. 3 reflectors on the clip provide the tracking of yer melon. The Pro- is headphone mounted LED system. Fits most over the head headphones that I've seen. This is an accessory- not included in base Track IR package. While technically superior to reflectors- there are a couple things to keep in mind about the Pro: 1. Assembly is PISS POOR- very cheap & fragile. Be very careful handling it. 2. Pro is wired. Fine if your headset wires and your track IR wires are heading to pretty much the same place on your computer. But- for example: you plug in your headphones to your front phonojack, but your track IR connects to rear of the case-- annoyance. Why it's not a LiON battery device- you'll have to ask them that. WynnTTr Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Hmm, thanks for the reply guys - though I'm still a little unsure...Should I cancel and reorder the pro, or can I just tape them up? TY! The Pro just means the emitter clip that you need to plug in. The camera is the same whether you buy the pro or not. You can buy the pro clip separately but I think it's more expensive than if you had bought it as part of the package. It'll still work with the reflectors but if you can get the Pro clip, I'd grab that cos the unit will come with the cap reflector regardless. That way you can choose what you want to use.
S77th-konkussion Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yes- Although I criticize the Pro- I also bought one. Now- I cannot use it because I just happened to have behind the head headphones- The clip won't.. clip.. to mine. The thing about the wires- that's also me. For whatever reason- my microphone will NOT work when plugged into rear phono jacks. But- it works just peachy out front. Whatever... this leads to my caution about the wire routing and why I wish they had made it a battery device. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Conure Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Alright I'll probably pick up the Trackclip pro at a later date - for now I just have this... http://www.flightstore.co.uk/trackir-5.asp When this arrives on Wednesday, I'll be able to use it with just a baseball cap, right? My only concern is I turning up and not being able to use it...I am still a child at heart :-) Thanks Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.

effte Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Welcome to the world of simulated flying. TIR is the thing which brings you into the simulator rather than looking at it from the outside - it's that good. I bought the TrackClip Pro with my TIR 5 when going from TIR 3. Tried it, but ended up going back to the basic ballcap clip. Less of a hassle, especially if you are not wearing headphones all the time when flying. ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.

S D Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Aslong as you have a cap knocking about, yeah you will be able to use it. All the clip does it provide the camera something to reflect off. So in theory you could just mount the baseball cap clip, to sayy the top of your headphones, aslong as it is stable enough. EDIT:- You will have no problem wearing headphones over the cap, aslong as the top reflector is not covered by the headset band.
Rusty_M Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 You bought it from the same place I did. I got the pro version, but if you have a tennis visor or baseball cap, you should be fine. @konkussion (sorry, i'm too tired to try quoting at the moment, had a bad day so I probably got your name wrong, as it's on the other page) you could try a hair band or something like that to clip the trackclip pro to. I agree with you on the build quality. Mine now has masking tape holding it together. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
S77th-konkussion Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 The key setup difference- as those threads will illustrate- is that the hat clip means you are mounting the camera more or less centered on your face. Slight adjustments may be needed if your head does not stay in the center of your monitor during flight. The LED Pro clip is mounted to the side of your head- and thus the camera will usually be quite a bit off center. "You must center the camera and the reflectors" (LED or otherwise) Mimimize sunlight intrusion into the room- and be mindful of lamps, etc in the camera's view. An overhead light should not be a problem- but a lamp behind you say-- 4 to 6 feet off the floor- could easily interfere. Be mindful of reflective logos & designs on your clothing.. stepad1 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 What I did. I have a Track IR Pro. I didn't like to wear my headphones with it, they were to heavy and uncomfortable after a while. I went down to Wal-mart and for 1 dollars or so purchased a black plastic headband that the female persuasion use to hold their hair back (let the snickering begin) :music_whistling:and attached to it just fine. It works super. OS:Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Comp:AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core 2.50GHz 3.00 GB Ram

Conure Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Oh..Um...one thing I hated was moving my mouse to look at a panel, pressing ACT + C to change it to click mode, clicking, then repeating the process to look forward again...With TrackIR can I just glance down and click with the mouse? And yeah, TIR will free up the mouse and hat switch for you to interact with the cockpit. Just remember to place the camera dead centre if you're wearing the cap piece and to the left when wearing your pro clip.
Bulletstop Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 There is nothing really wrong with the vector. I used one for several years. However now that I have the track clip I have to say the response from the trackir is smoother and more precise. It does take a bit to get used to, but once you do you will never be with out. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us do.
