XarBat Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) I changed it in the HUD to say HEI instead of CM and rearmed, but was still shooting Combat Mix. How do I get the ground crew to load only HEI rounds into the plane? Also is there a way to make the TGP diamond visable when the Gun icon is over it? Edited March 8, 2011 by XarBat
fragged Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 You probably have to load HE in the Mission Editor.
Garfieldo Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 The HUD GUI setting for the rounds is just for the aircraft to know which rounds it is firing. Right now I cannot think of rearming a specific type of rounds, it has to be set in the armament setup in the mission editor. To to use the TGP diamond as a targeting aid do the following: 1. IFFCC switch to "Test" 2. In the HUD menu, go to "Display Modes" 3. Change "CCIP Gun Cross Occult" to "No" Now the CCIP gun cross (CCIP mode, NOT GUN mode!) will not cover the TGP diamond. I usually use the MAV profile for TGP-guided gun runs, since this does not add any unwanted HUD symbology that clutters it (like freefall bombs).
nomdeplume Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Ammunition mix is part of the loadout. As far as I can tell, none of the in-mission loadouts you can select from the Ground Crew comms menu are HEI (although maybe the anti-infantry ones are?) You can select it from the mission editor / mission planner on the screen where you select your loadout. The ammunition type is selected in the right hand side of the screen. The gun cross will always occlude the other HUD symbology so you can see what you're shooting at. If you're in CCIP mode (i.e. not guns mode) you'll get a secondary gun cross so you can shoot with the gun as well as e.g. rockets on the same pass. On the Display mode menu of the IFFCC, you can set an option CCIP GUN CROSS OCCULT (or similar wording), which went set to N will cause that secondary cross to not hide any other symbology behind it. So... yes you can, but you need to use CCIP master mode with the secondary cross rather than guns mode, and you need to set the display option to not occult. Normal practice is to either get visual or use some kind of reference point against something you can see, e.g. "half way between the road and that field", "edge of the forest", etc.
XarBat Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Thanks, but that is a bit silly that I need to use CCIP mode to most accurately fire the gun.
sobek Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Thanks, but that is a bit silly that I need to use CCIP mode to most accurately fire the gun. Not at all, you want to fire at a target and not at the TGP diamond. If you are unable to see the target, consider using zoom. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
El_Roto Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Zoom is definitely your friend here. Use the TGP diamond to get close, then zoom-in to viz your target. It only takes a little practice to nail it down. If you have an unused rotary on your throttle, map the zoom control to it; I did that with my Warthog and it made all the difference in the world with my gun (should I say "fun"?) runs.
