  1. I had a belly-wop landing today and it felt like a normal landing except for two things: I hit the runway a little lower than with the gear down and I rolled out for a little while, then drifted to the right and stopped. Then I waited on the runway for three minutes and *poof*, my landing gear were down. If only I had fuel left to taxi back to ramp (long story).
  2. I want a boxed version. I only bought the d/l version 'cause it got me into the beta. I'll have to save up for it, but I'll get it.
  3. That's nothing, a SAM turned me into a Newt! ...got bettah...
  4. I'm running Windowed Mode and my fps went from 30 to WOW after I patched. I turned everything up (except water) and now I have frames in the 50s with no stuttering at airports, no appreciable loss when TGP and Mav are selected and smooth as silk flying when in the weeds around towns. I've not seen any pauses at weapon impact; I unloaded a whole combat mix into Sleepy Hollow (any old town) watching impacts from either F6 or TGP and it was smooth. No appreciable MP time yet, though.
  5. Some things are worth waiting for, but once they arrive you always wish you could have gotten them sooner!
  6. Win 7 64 bit. Had a 32 bit machine and now it's gathering dust. <heh> Won't do SP1, though. Did it on the old machine and suddenly I couldn't use my speakers, headset, and microphone. Tried everything to fix it but it was a complete wash.
  7. What, not one short joke?! *Short turn-around time. *Short warm-up time. *Will not short out in wet conditions. *Short fuse for close-in targets. Etc.
  8. IIRC, it takes three minutes to repair your a/c. Also, don't shut down - ask for ground power. That way you won't lose CDU alignment.
  9. @jesse1: I'm inferring from your post that you keep the WH throttles linked except when starting up (definitely stop using the keyboard shortcuts, btw). I strongly suggest that you get used to flying without the linkage. If you have an inflight emergency it takes too long to get the throttles separated. I started flying with the throttles linked but stopped after an engine failure caused me to rethink that course of action. It takes a little getting used to but once you have the hang of it you'll forget that rod ever existed; only use it when you're flying sims that don't recognize dual throttles or single engine a/c.
  10. Slightly OT, but when you refer to "cycling the door" do you mean the handle on the left upper console or the NWS switch? I use the latter to return to the "READY" light. Not that I need to, of course, merely speaking hypothetically. ;)

    SimHQ Review

Thanks for posting the link, I haven't been to SimHQ for a few days and had missed the review.
  12. Here's how I do it: Never land first! Make #1 find the right spot. :D
  13. Nothing like doing a re-start at 4,000 feet after a double flame-out to make you appreciate learning manual start-up procedures. :joystick:
  14. A lesson learned in the Training Modules and quickly forgotten. Thanks for reiterating this.
  15. -see specs below- Every time A-10C displays a map in both SP and MP it's spread down and across my two LCDs. Yuck. My total resolution is 1920x1680. I'm guessing there's a map.lua or somesuch I need to edit, yes? Pointers are welcomed. P.S. I searched for this and came up empty which surprised me as I can't be the first with this problem. I tried "map" (too many hits), resolution, F10 and view (would have used combinations of these but you can't use "AND" in this search feature ). Sorry for any repetition this may have caused.
  16. Zoom is definitely your friend here. Use the TGP diamond to get close, then zoom-in to viz your target. It only takes a little practice to nail it down. If you have an unused rotary on your throttle, map the zoom control to it; I did that with my Warthog and it made all the difference in the world with my gun (should I say "fun"?) runs.
  17. I'd loan you mine but it's being detailed at the moment. They're buffing out some nicks a d@mn boom operator put in the paint job.
  18. Angels 20? What do you think I am, an airline pilot? ;)
  19. Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere - one thing I've found to be very helpful is to assign the center and pause functions (the first one re-aligns your view, the latter freezes the camera - very useful when working the radios or CDU) to mouse buttons. I used Mouse Btn 3 and Mouse Btn 4 and it made a world of difference. The defaults are F keys (12 and 9, IIRC) which are a pain since it's hard to hold your head still when reaching across the keyboard, in my experience anyway. Just a tip. Also (I can't paste the link now as I'm on my I-Pad and doing that without a mouse is a real pain in the ***), search the forum for Wag's DCS profile for Track-IR. I use it and feel it works extremely well; over time you'll probably develop your own but his is a great place to start. At any rate, enjoy your new kit! I can only echo the praise others have stated. (The Pro is pretty flimsy, though. I'm on my second one after JB Weld couldn't hold the first one together any longer. [pout])
  20. Not only that, but it appears every maintainance guy is a very heavy cigar smoker! ;) -or- Why animate a ground crew when you can hide them in a smoke screen? :D Seriously, this is a very nice addition to the sim! Good catch.
  21. Well put, EtherealN. 'bot says I can't rep you now, so let this be a pat on the back.
  22. I can't wait 'till I figure out the best way to defeat a Tunguska. So far it's "Tunguskas-5, El_Roto - nil". ;)
  23. We're gonna put you in a Sensory Deprivation Tank and bring every little detail of that course back in focus! :smartass:
  24. Thunderbird, use the trick that's linked in Nate--IRL--'s signature; it's helped a lot of people with memory issues. Best of luck!
