barra733 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I'm looking to purchase a wireless mouse, no more than £40/$50, but after trawling through 103 pages on e-bay I'm no wiser as to what I'm after. I want one with a 'dock' for recharging (I'm sick of changing batteries in my notebook one) but don't require a 'gaming' mouse. Anyone out there with a good quality mouse that fits the bill willing to reccommend it?
Vullcan Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) I've used all the high end wireless mice, both gaming and professional. Just recently I tried out the razer mamba to see what the hype was with it and discovered it really wasn’t worth the $130 price tag. Logitech mice are tops, you'll be hard pressed to find flaws with them. I recently settled on the Logitech G700. I believe it has the strongest / fastest updating signal between the microscopic nub you plug into your USB port and the mouse. It fits (my) hand well and it has more buttons than you can shake a stick at. You can plug it in via the USB cable, and it takes AA batteries. I used to use 1 AA battery every 2 weeks with my older logitech MX1000/1100, but now that im trying to be more "green" I've been using the (sanyo?) enloop rechargeable batteries. The mouse comes with one installed but I've found using a $20 charger / battery pack that I got from costco to be ideal. With docking stations, I found that I sometimes forgot to put the mouse back on the cradle, and having it go dead in the middle of a gaming session was no joy. I like having a stack of 4 always recharged batteries at the ready, and with the new enloop batteries they really last a long time. Nothing could separate me and the G700... no other wireless mouse can touch it right now, IMO. Edited March 8, 2011 by Vullcan
MTFDarkEagle Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Unlike Vullcan, I would highly recommend the razer mamba. With the right mousepad, and a bit getting used to, I find it very good. Very precise, and lies steady in my hand. But, seen your budget: you might want to have a look at the G700. I hear good things about it, though the shape isn't for me :) (it has to be said, I didn't think the mamba would be either, but anyway..) Revvin Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I'm also using the Razer Mamba and very happy with it, its ultra precise, battery life is pretty good between charges and if you do forget to charge it you can pull the usb cord out of the docking station and plug it into the mouse. One gripe would be actually taking the USB cord back out of the mouse is a little fiddly. Another thing that doesn't really relate to the performance but the packaging is really top class for this mouse and the docking station is very stylish. Its like mounting your mouse on a display plinth to charge.
WynnTTr Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I'm using the G700 and am very happy with it. Fully programmable, precise, smooth, has a ton of buttons that are easily accessible and doesn't lose track in wireless mode. Best of all the recharging cable is sitting on my desk held in case I need to recharge it. When it gets low I just plug it in and play normally. When it's fully recharge I just unplug it and leave the cable on my monitor stand. I hate having to get up to change batteries or to put it in a dock. The other thing I like about it is that it's precise up until it fully runs out of batteries. So no erratic movements or losing track when it's low, it just dies with no power. plug in the recharging cable and you're back in business. Batteries last a while for me. I spend 2-3 hours on the computer when i get home from work and need to recharge it every 3-4 days. Takes about 30-45 minutes to fully recharge from red status (never timed it).
