Jinja Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Aplogies if old wish... As a simmer who can't devote constant flying time to DCS:10, I can't be expected to remember EVERYTHING in the game. ;) My particular problem is in the weapons load-out screen. If for example I want to load up some rockets, I'm given all the choices, ie: Mk5 M151 M154 etc etc This is meaningless to me. It should be trivial to add some meaningful explanation in brackets, ie: Mk5 (HE) M151 (Anti-personnel) M1337 (smoke) etc. I shouldn't have to be expected to leave the mission, cross-check in Encyclopedia, pdf manual, then switch back.... Many thanks! i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Eddie Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 You could just print out the relevant page of the manual, or just write down on a piece of paper what they are for future reference. Why do people always seem to forget about a good old pen & paper these days? ;)
Jinja Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Yeah but after printing out airport guides, RWR symbology, AAA threat-guide, my own notes for procedures, VAC commands, keyboard commands, HOTAS commands..... Think of the treeeeeeeees! i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS

Think of the treeeeeeeees! Yeah, but flicking through pages on a real kneeboard is so much more satisfying than reading a pdf on your computer. You've bought a super realistic study sim, you might aswell admit defeat and have the reams of documents lying around you PC as well. My main monitor has about 15 post it size bits of paper all over it with takeoff speed charts etc. It's the way forwards.
Jinja Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Ah yes Eddie but this is your job! (I as assuming you get paid in sheckels as an ED tester?) I agree that kneeboards are a win from an immersion POV. But my request I believe is valid. I am not against having to juggle alot of knowledge while in the Hog, but during Mission Planning, when selecting items from a listbox that aren't common knowledge to people who don't spend 3+hrs a day in DCS, it would be very easy to enhance the efficiency of interacting with the GUI in the manner I requested. But that's just my 2pennies! i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Eddie Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Ah yes Eddie but this is your job! (I as assuming you get paid in sheckels as an ED tester?) Paid? Yeah, I wish. No we mere testers are all volunteers, recruited by ED as we were stupid enough to say yes without knowing what we were getting into. :D We all have real jobs as well, this is just a hobby the same as with everyone else.

Jona33 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Use an iPad or equivelent :D Most of what I use my iPad for is DCS manuals, charts, etc. Not all of us can spend £400 or whatever on an ipad. Although they are quite cool. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
sobek Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) How can I become a ED tester or Worker??? All testers are selected by ED for their behaviour and display of special skills beneficial to the testing team. You can't choose to become a tester, they choose you. Dunno how ED recruit staff members, though. Edited April 28, 2011 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
