A central Servman database you are talking about, like a forum, a list of concerns or a place where people can input problems they have/had on servers with the offenders name/track?

No. Quite simply, a 'Ban-list' database/entry shared by all the servers in the Community.

I understand where you are coming from, ie The procedure prior to getting the name of the offender on the list. No reason that that cannot be undertaken as it has been up to now: One contacts the relevant server admin at his Squad forum or otherwise and the matter is investigated and if satisfied the name is added to the ban-list and implemented etc etc. Be that as it may, all in good time.

What I am proposing is first and foremost to get all server admins/providers together under 'one roof' so to speak in an attempt to co-ordinate a 'better' MP server experience for the Community: All else will follow as a matter of course.

Goes without saying that without said willing co-operation of all server admins/providers, the idea stands to stumble at the first hurdle in any event so probably best to get that out of the way first I would have thought.

I'd say the vJaBoG32 is good example why this initiative could move things forward: We're extremely busy with the stuff we do squad-internal. Because of that, we have no one building missions for public use or for "babysitting" (not meant to be offending!) open missions.

But if there would be a central place to exchange missions, designed a bit lo-fi to fit the needs of an open public server, I'd of course install servman on our sever and let some of those missions run without password at the times our squadron doesn't need the server for training flights etc.

Again: The main reason why there is no public server from us so far is 1) we all do not fly on public servers (at least ultra rarely) and 2) due to point 1, no one is interested in creating public missions. Networking on this topic would at least bring our server on the scene.

Overall a good initiative here!

Jolly Good :)

Cali nailed a particular topic on the head:

The ED forums are NOT the place for MP/intersquad drama. Such topics would not be permitted here, and for this reason the CRT has its place.

Rather, what Viper is doing is taking initiative based on some internal discussions regarding the MP community.

Bottom line, what we would like to see:

More open servers

Cooperation between server admins to make the above happen without depriving them of the use of their server for too long - ie. rotating open servers

These would have to operate on 'welcome basis'. Kick people, don't ban'em. Don't expect them to have read/practiced anything, and don't deride them for it, but you aren't obliged to help them either. Don't bother banning troublemakers unless they show they aren't going to improve. It's all about not having a twitchy trigger finger. You'll be running your server passworded once out of rotation anyway!

Obviously such a thing is strictly voluntary - you guys are paying for your boxes - what we're asking of the server admins is to ask as welcoming ambassadors to this flight sim series.

For this reason Viper is trying to gather opinions etc, and take them forth so that we can assist you in planning these things by providing an open forum for your discussion and where new players can find you.

Discussions can range from map design to a short wishlist of items to help out with hosting open servers (for example, segmentation of available slots that 'guide' players to pick say, a slot that takes them to a less advanced mission than for someone else) ... so you can expect a bit of a different behavior from each airfield, etc.

Fully supported here, although a little concerened that the current ATO system for DCS Newcomer training, is brought ínto' the propsed rotation and indeed, considered as a current working solution for those new pilots who have done exactly as you have said. No Manual being read, no training missions attempted, fired up and multiplayer selected.

is this not a console mentality? that aside, we'll get over it of course, and undoubtedly we will get a system going.

Good form.

If you guys wish to use the ATO or whatever other means you have for making arrangements, cool with me - whatever makes your guys lives easier I think is an excellent achievement :)

For the console mentality thing - sure it is. Doing it your way is also elitist - given that I do things that way too, I know the reasons for it and I don't blame you. Same coin, different sides :D You could in theory serve both by providing 'jump in and fly and shoot things' slots, and then slots in an area with a slightly more demanding mission environment in the same mission. This way you have a bit of choice within the server while it's running open.

When it comes to /open/ servers however, we were hoping to see a class server out there that newcomers could join regardles of skill level or edumacation; yes, admins would need to keep an eye out to ensure no one comes in to ruin the day for everyone - that's the price of freedom, as they say :D

But on the other hand, you get a pool of fresh blood that will become avid simmers - some will remain casual, some will go on to get much deeper into it. But WITHOUT that server sitting there, ready to welcome them, they'll just see they can't play MP and head out.

You might think that 'well, the TS addy is in the description' is enough but - no, it really isn't for this purpose. Believe it or not, people have a 'click limit' ... some want to be shown in quickly. Sure, a lot of them won't 'survive' to your standards. But more will than otherwise, if you catch my drift.

Now - as I said before, you guys pay for these boxes, which is why we couldn't ask anyone to just run an open server. This is voluntary, and we hope that a rotation system will serve the following:

- Provide an open, well managed, class A server for newcomers to jump into

- Provide a welcoming atmosphere while smiting those who come in just to strafe those starting up (we know that such people exist and troll servers)

- Provide a pool of new recruits to existing squadrons who run these servers

- Provide new simmers exposure to squadron things

- Alleviate pressure from a single server to run open thanks to rotation, thus encouraging a server being out there and open.

Basically, in a way it's also your opportunity to show off and wow newcomers as a squadron as well. :)

....is this not a console mentality?

It's all about catering for the broadest spectrum of needs/desires. What might be considered a 'console mentality' for one member might very well not apply to another.

A system where both/all needs are catered for at all times and where both/all desires are recognised as being of equal importance in the MP environment is what we are striving to provide within an Open-Server environment.

Before we get into the topic deeper and deeper:

Can we expect a subforum or something similar in the near future to discuss everything neccessary or shall we proceed in this thread? EDIT: Just read your linked thread. So the question becomes obsolete for now...

Structure could look like:

- Open DCS:A-10C Servers (Subforum with a dedicated thread for each Server)

- Open MP-Missions (Subforum with threads to introduce/discuss certain missions)

Also you could maybe give each Sim (FC2/DCS:Ka-50/DCS:A-10C) it's own dedicated Multiplayer Subforum instead of having the mixed one at the Sim Topics section.

That is the purpose of the following thread I linked to:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=75016

To gauge the interest in the current server admins/providers in the concept proposed.

If we all are of the opinion that certainly the majority of current server providers are willing to work towards the proposal, then I can go to ED with a request that we are provided with a MP sub-forum within which to continue discussions.
