Cajun Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I am using active pause a lot while training. I was wondering if you think that active pause is on par with using labels or do you feel that active pause is an integral part of the sim.
WarriorX Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Welcome to the Forums Cajun! IMHO, your goal is to become proficient with this Sim, then use the tools at your disposal. Once you do get to the point of being able to use all the general systems with comfort, you will see that you need active pause less, and less. At that point you can "wean'" yourself off of labels if you have been using them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" It's a good method and one i fully endorse and promote in my video series. Good luck. 'T' Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED

-Ice Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I used to use it a lot in F4AF, but not so much in this sim. I've got it re-mapped to an easily accessible button, so "it's there when I need it." - Ice
Frostiken Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I am using active pause a lot while training. I was wondering if you think that active pause is on par with using labels or do you feel that active pause is an integral part of the sim. Active Pause *is* like using labels - in the sense that it's there to overcome things that you simply can't duplicate in the sim and there's nothing wrong with using it. In real life, you can easily drop your hand from the throttle and hit a switch. In the sim, you have to turn your head with your TrackIR, steady yourself, grab the mouse, find where the cursor is, move it over to the switch, and hit it. Likewise with labels (though I've replaced mine so they don't show all that info), your screen resolution limits your visibility whereas in reality you can see much better. So labels make up for that. I wouldn't rely too much on Active Pause though... it's very buggy. For example, missiles will still hit you, timers will still count down... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
sofie_59 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I see that you become one of Ed Testers team TIGER .congrats! Active pause is a grate thing to set up the weapons, I dont know if it just me but sometimes in a senario singel or campagn the Active Pause dont work,I think it would only work in training not in real combat!(pc combat!) Zenra Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 The way I look at it, if I were doing this in real life, I would be spending plenty of time in ground school, studying and in simulators. Using active pause is like using a "simulator" in this sense, allowing time to become familiar with use of all the systems before you have to employ them in missions. I try not to use active pause when I am flying missions, but use it frequently when flying training missions, trying things out I read about here on these forums, etc. Zenra Intel i7 930 2.8GHz; ATI HD5850 1GB; 1TB Serial ATA-II; 12GB DDR3-1333; 24 x DL DVD+/-RW Drive; 800W PSU; Win7-64; TM Warthog HOTAS
bartleby Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Also, are you making use of the alt-hold autopilot to set up orbits? That way you can contact a JTAC and set up an engagement without focusing on flying the plane. DCS Wiki! :book:
milky82 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Ive found the more experience I get the less and less I use it
Zenra Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Also, are you making use of the alt-hold autopilot to set up orbits? That way you can contact a JTAC and set up an engagement without focusing on flying the plane. Totally agree - in most missions you have ample time to set up an orbit or do a recon pass and mark a few target points before setting up your attack. Especially when you have an FAC - stay high and safe orbiting behind the FLOT and use the TAD to plan your attack run and egress route. The A10-C does a great job of flying slow and this characteristic is perfect for taking time to set up attack runs.
