Dude honestly it's not that good. your POV drifts around constantly. The technology is simply not refined enough yet. now the tracking could be bad because my face is somewhat hidden behind a beard and a lot of hair, but I dunno, lol.

Honestly, it is just perfect - and free. Get yourself the PS3 EyeCam and play a little with the configs.

For me, Facetracknoir 1.5 works best.

You could also try my DCS BS config I found earlier in the Forums.

Personally, I think that paying 150 € for the electronic waste of TrackIR is not worth - maybe it works better but it also costs about 150 times more

I'm not sure if it's a waste, because I never used it. all I know is that i really don't like the idea of always playing in the dark, with something attached to your head, and also I dont have 150 bucks to give on that.

but I also know that I never managed to have FTnoIR working great with the warthog.

do you use ppjoy for BS?

any users doing good with ftnoir and warthog?

I recently got myself a PS3Eye to use with FTnoIR and FreeTrack, because it can manager a higher FPS. First thing I noticed was that the PS3Eye works loads better in a dimly lit environment. Lighting is very important with FTnoIR and most of us have our computers in the corner of a room. A well placed lamp can cure this but with the PS3Eye I do not need this. I paid about £8 for a used PS3 eye and had it setup within 10 minutes. My intention was to leave in the IR filter and try out FTnoIR, if I had limited success, I would then remove it and try FreeTrack.... I already had a 3 IR LED Cap.

I am still using pretty much the default settings in FTnoIR, I have altered the curves slightly so the movement/translation ratio increases the further I move on an axis and tweaked the amount of distance moved to the extents I wanted. I am yet to touch the smoothing and other options but even now I have a very usable setup in 6DOF.

For those using or trying to use ppjoy, I believe you will be able to use the FreeTrack protocol with your headtracking interfaces, both FreeTrack and FTnoIR. This will include 64 bit as well. I know there has been a prototype interface in testing:

FYI: I have already made a working prototype for the interface, for the 32-bit version. We are testing it, as we speak.

It looks like the 64-bit version (the one that's really 'in demand') will require a bit more attention, since the 32-bit DLL can probably not be loaded in that version.

To be continued...:book:

what you "know" could be corrected and probably at the source where you learned that from... you don't have to be in a darkened room with the TIR.

Both FreeTrack and TrackIR are best used with infra-red LED's.

In short, the setup is remove the infra-red filter from your webcam, then add a filter to only let infra-red light through. This can be made from the inside of a floppy disk or an old, exposed camera film/negative. Once this has been done, your webcam will only see the Infra-red light. It will not really matter how much light you have in the room then.

Sometimes, if the camera has direct sight to a lightbulb you may have problems but ambient light is fine.

Like you I could not get PPjoy to work with FTnoIR, and this would also be the case with FreeTrack. In a few weeks though, I believe there will be an interface that will allow FreeTrack/FTnoIR to work directly with Warthog using the FreeTrack protocol. The solution is currently being created by the developer of FTnoIR.

I already broke a microsoft webcam trying to remove the IR filter. apparently I did nothing wrong, but when I plugged the camera, I would show me only green/magenta. no tones or variations, but only these two colors, so yeah, It's broken. after that I gave up on removing IR filters. I also did the floppy disk thing, but not much success. so I bought an eyecam, made a nice 3 point clip, but with red leds. and honestly? not good. it won't keep track of points all the time, it disconnects now and then. after a while i got it stable, but the tracking isnt smooth enough to keep the camera pointing steady somewhere, steady enough to click switches, etc. so i gave up on that.

waiting on FTnoIR, but currently i cant get it working in warthog.
