gear_monkey Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Hi all, Just got a new acer 23" 1920x1080 monitor. I am having two issues: 1) when I look straight ahead the cockpit windscreen rails are magnified so that it looks like I have metal blinders on....as soon as I move my head they go to normal size..see screen shot. 2) as I am moving my head around, the view gets blocky like the screen is struggling to keep up with new views....no game stutter, but a slight resolution stutter. any ideas? KillaALF Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 1) no idea 2) sounds like screen tearing - turn on vsync, this can be set either through your graphics card driver control panel or by editing the "options.lua" file in C:\Users\Your_username\Saved Games\DCS Warthog.
gear_monkey Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) vsync shows "true" in options file so I guess its on already ETA: I used nVidia control panel to turn on vsync for Launcher.exe and now problem #2 is solved. Still can't figure out the cockpit rail magnification issue........ Baggy MacDouche Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I have an ATI 6950(shader unlocked) w/vsync turned on both in-game settings and CCC. I too have the screen tearing and no matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of it. I also thought it might be my monitor but it has a 2ms response time so that shouldn't be an issue. At some point I'll try and capture it with some video but don't know if it is something that will translate. Nate--IRL-- Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Go to \\Config\graphics.cfg and change line 22 with NOTEPAD++ to read sync = 1; That is the ONLY way to enable Vsync in DCS. As for No.1 it is a very wide FOV, I have no idea what could be causing it though. gear_monkey Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) This only happens at the start of missions? Please explain it a little bit more. Nate its all the time. Its not a zoom issue...I just zoomed out so you could see the effect, the game starts at a good zoom level. When I look straight ahead the side cockpit rails are distorted to be zoomed to an abnormally large size(take a look at my first screen shot..this is what I mean, the side rails are twice as thick as they should be). It gives the impression of having blinders on that block your periphial vision. Using TIR, when I move my head to look to the side, the cockpit rails reduce down to normal size again....I can literally make them enlarge and shrink by just moving my head around a bit. Wartski Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 try resetting different resolutions in the game the set as native resolution for the monitor, see what happens W7 x64, i7 965, Rampage II Extreme, GTX480, 6GB Corsair 1866 cl7
Nate--IRL-- Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Ahh ok now I get you., yes it is that the FOV is set too High. EDIT:- Do what Wartski has suggested first, I'd guess the aspect ratio for your new monitor resolution is incorrect. Please extract the two files in the attached zip into the \\Config\View folder (Back up first!) and try again. Nate--IRL-- Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 You are correct this is not a common problem. If you press * or / on the numpad does your view change in and out? Do you perhaps have zoom mapped to a slider on your joystick? Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Nate--IRL-- Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 No keys as such, TIR should move your head, but the default head position is editable in the config files. However I believe what you are experiencing is called the Fish eye effect. The higher your Field of Vision (FOV) the more apparent the effect is. The default FOV (75 Deg IIRC) should not display this effect. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

I just discovered with TIR5 if I just pull my head back at various distances, the fish eye effect doesn't exist...its just when I use my zoom mapping that the effect becomes overwhelming. Thanks for sticking with me on this....I think I can get it to a playable level now. Nate--IRL-- Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I'd suggest not zooming out that much that it becomes a problem. However if are interested in changing the default position of the head in the cockpit have a read though this. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68821 Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

gear_monkey Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Could it be a driver issue? Did you use driver sweeper before you updated drivers? I don't see how but what do I know... My previous monitor worked great as far as preportions, I think its just a matter of getting rid of the fish eye effect. I have been playing around with the aspect ratio number in the config.lua file and found a setting of 1.79 helps curb the effect. Baggy MacDouche Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Anyone have any other suggestions for my screen tearing problem. I've tried everything suggested here so far. I know vsync is turned on everywhere that it can be. I'm running the latest 11.4 catalyst drivers after doing an uninstall/driver sweeper cleanup. No amount of changes in video options ingame or through CCC seem to have any effect on it. I haven't noticed this problem in other games. Kuky Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) If you're running DCSA-10C in windowed mode turn Aero on... I run it in windowed mode also and both in game and graphics driver (ATI card here) I have vsync off but I don't get any tearing as I believe it's Windows 7 Aero feature making the image not tear so try that see if it helps. Baggy MacDouche Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 OK, I'm a world class idiot. I could have sworn that I changed the config/graphics.cfg>sync=0 to 1, but when I looked again it was still 0.
