The 104th are pleased to announce a new mission for our FC2 deicated server, Operation Lermontov. We hope you enjoy it and look for more new missions soon. Many thanks to 104th_IronMike for his many hours spent on this mission!

Sochi 2014/15: A massive terrorist attack has cost thousands of lives at the opening ceremonial of the Olympic Games. Some claim it was Islamic terrorists, others claim it was an attack by Abkhazian insurgents that are being supported by Russia itself. Russia has therefore declared war on the fundamentalist Islamic world, including Georgia and Iran. France demanded the European Union to support Russia and has started to send massive numbers of troops to Russia to support its war on Terror. The USA, in the meantime the biggest supporter of the Islamic world, has sent its troops to the Black Sea to help its allies. Out of fear, Germany and The Netherlands met with NATO. Israel stepped on the side of Russia hoping to defeat Iran. So it is here, at the feet of Mount Elbrus, that the game of war is being restarted and old enemies oppose each other again...

NATO has launched its massive Operation Lermontov – with the aim to gain control of the Stawropol region and to force Russia into negotiations. The main goal is to take Min’ Vody and secure the bridgehead at Nalchick and Mosdok, that has been won in the last months of heavy fighting. Russia has just regained control of the Taman Peninsula and is trying to defeat the remaining NATO forces around Novorossijsk. While the rest of the world is demonstrating for peace, it has not yet decided which coalition to trust. Many hope that at the grave of the Great Russian poet – who had witnessed the Caucasian war a long time ago – the world would solve a big problem in a fairly small conflict, or as Lermontov said himself: “An unusual beginning must have an unusual end.”

If you manage to make them all safely RTB, we might convince the UN Tribunal that justice is on our side and they will grant us permission to use Maykop (WP4) as a forward operating base, but we believe the enemy has similar plans and route, so be on the lookout while you are on escort.

Fighter Intercept:

- The enemy will have Cargo planes leaving Gelendzhik WP5. We believe they are carrying goods for a Patriot Sam Station. Shoot down at least 1 of them, and the enemy won’t be able to reinforce their Air Defenses. You are weapons free on any enemy Cargo planes.

CAS - Fast Attack:Su-25/Su-25T

Take off from Krasnodar-Center, fly to WP2 (Novorossiysk Harbor) – Target Area Alpha. After destroying the ground units and ships at Alpha you can use Novorossijsk for rearm and refuel. Move to WP3 TA Bravo – Gelendzhik Airport. Once ground units at Bravo are destroyed, we will be able to use it as a FARP and more attack aircraft will be dispatched to it. Continue following waypoints to destroy additional enemy groups; WP4=Charlie Group, WP5=Delta. Final enemy group Echo is not marked with a WP and will be on the move. Expect enemy ground and AD reinforcements at any time.

Subtasks A2G Fast Attack & Attack Helo:

Kedr-OIC will provide you with secondary objectives if available at target trigger that will advance your success on completion or slow it down, if you fail.

- destroy the 3 Radio Comms Towers at ALPHA to open a window for a Spec Ops team to sabotage the BUK-site at Gelendzikh.

- destroy the advancing MLRS convoy at ALPHA to protect our Artillery. If you fail, the enemy will regain momentum and bring in additional AD

- stop the retreating tank convoy before it reaches BRAVO.

- help our infantry that is trapped at DELTA.

High Value Target Search and Destroy:

UAV has spotted 3 S300 5P85D LNs in this region. They seem not operational, but we cannot take the risk. Kedr OIC will keep you informed. Find and destroy them to win!

Sometimes one need to ignore reality factors in a sim world to create some good fun. ;)

Good work Crunch, I'll swing by one day when we get some time off here.

I like the story IronMike came up with. I think he could give Tom Clancy a run for his money :) If we let him do it. IronMike would have made the briefing 20 pages long with story alone.

=WRAG=team download mod and make some test flights.

The fillings are very good!

:smilewink:

Once, we need to restart mission and join it with many people/teams/squads to have a good fun!

Ps: do you have night version of this mission?

Thank you Sergey! We do not have a separate night version of mission, but many times the mission goes for a very long time and it gets dark.

Soon we will have Opfor 11-2 and we will use this mission. WRAG is more than welcome to join us comrade.

Since 1.2.4 I think it's fair to say that the Self protection capability of the Tunguska SA-19 and Tor SA-15 have put a serious damper on the effectiveness of AGM-65's for example. This particular mission, with it's overlapping Sa-15 and Sa-19 and SA-11 mutual protection going on, now requires some serious thought on achieving the upper hand on Target Group Alpha on both sides, particularly using the A-10C.

How I've cracked it flying solo with the A-10C is, 1st Sortie on blue side: = 40% fuel, 6xGBU-12's, Pod. Climb to 30,000 and engage the 2 most Easterly Comms tower on the hills as per brief. Then ingress on a South West flight path and engage the final comms tower on the big hill (NAV1). With 3 GBU-12's lighter + spent fuel you'll have a bit of extra speed to run away from that inevitable SA-11 launch. Stay at 30. Drop below this in a panic when '11' starts singing and you die by SA-15/19/13. Just fly South-East after the GBU drop. You should be safe.

After the 3 comms tower are down this triggers the SA-11 destruction anyway.

For Red side, same story... just change you flight vector on the final comms tower to run parallel with the SA-11.

You know the rest....

Tell me about it... I usually fly the Su-25T and shooting a Kh-25MPU doesn't mean a certain SAM or AAA kill. The Tunguska always shoot the missiles down!

ON this particular mission, several times now, I have seen, and myself have tested, a full SEAD payload. Double tap x2 missiles, x 3 targets. I will get 1 kill,... with a little bit of luck. I need the second sortie to start making a hole in the cover. the 3rd sortie starts actually making good work.

I'm pretty sure it takes 4-5 Su-25T sorties to clear out the SAM cover that extends from ALPHA - Bravo. Madness! :P Wasn't like this until 1.2.4

Also there seems to be an anomaly in the terrain aswell that's new in 1.2.4. The SA-19 that used to drive to the top of the NAV1 hill... The SEAD missiles impact BESIDE the SAM unit. It took 3 proximity hits to kill the SA-19. And the SA-15 was bad also. SO I moved them off the hill to lower ground.

Hey sorry for the necro!

I noticed a problem with the Tankers, or atleast i think i did.

When the Tanker RTBs the message suggests a new one will spawn/start, but the TACAN freq (on blue 1y) will stay on the old tanker who lands at an airfield.
