lobo Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Hi just a short note on something that I found interesting. I was practicing aerial refueling the other day, the tanker at the end of its refueling track descended for landing, I flew in formation with it and landed. Taxied clear of the runway, following the tanker. Going down the taxi way he stopped rather quickly (I was following a wee bit too close) and I could not stop before ending up with my canopy right underneath his horizontal stab. I opened my canopy and it partially extended coming into contact with the bottom of the tankers horizontal stabilizer. ...ok now the interesting part... when the canopy opened and contacted the tanker tail the upward force of the canopy opening mechanism had the effect of compressing my nose wheel strut! luv it! WarriorX Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Yep, the physic's modeling is quite impressive isn't it? I can only imagine what you said as that KC135 was getting bigger in your HUD! And I can only imagine what the virtual guys in the tanker were saying when they looked back and saw my canopy repeatedly thumping into the tail of their airplane with the nose of my jet going up and down, up and down. Frostiken Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 I can only imagine what the crew chief said when he saw what you did to the canopy actuator. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
lobo Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 I can only imagine what the crew chief said when he saw what you did to the canopy actuator. He forgot all about the canopy actuator in the .15 seconds it took my seat to rocket up the rails of his jet. Lobo's DCS A-10C Normal Checklist & Quick Reference Handbook current version 8D available here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/172905/
cichlidfan Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Yep, the physic's modeling is quite impressive isn't it? It is indeed, but as an inept pilot I appreciate the fact that trees, buildings and fences at the end of the runway aren't modelled quite so thoroughly! ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP!
