SUBS17 Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 I think that they'd need a whole new engine to model sounds as good as that. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
MonnieRock Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Hello Everyone, Theses are the type of sounds I have been dreaming of in a sim and zzzspace has been trying to help us with. I know everyone is always taking about graphics but, to me sounds add a major role in "simulation". The graphics except for the fading in of objects are top notch in my opinion. How about a sound engine update for our favorite simulation. To be honest, the sounds in Lock-on and FC was the part of the simulation I enjoyed the least. Shaman Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I think that they'd need a whole new engine to model sounds as good as that. I've read recently about OpenAL sound engine. I heard few cool games are using it and it sounds very good, 3d, sound effects and such. I'm not much into the technical side of it - but that's a good start. Maybe for LockOn 2.0 :) edit: http://www.openal.org/titles.html From all that games there... I play Americas Army. And it has fantastic sound! 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
SUBS17 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 http://www.sounddogs.com/subcategories.asp?Type=1&CategoryID=1005 Take a listen to some of these sounds, zzzspaces soundpack is so far the best thats available but if you listen to the sound files on sound dogs you'll see that aircraft sounds in real life are quite complex. Its extremely difficult to reproduce the effect because of the influence of speed of sound, enviroment, engine type, weather and angle all are different influences on the sounds effect. Hopefully the new generation of sound cards will be able to handle this. BTW recording the engine sounds in the pit is also a good idea particularly the startup sequence. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
diveplane Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 imo ARCHERS lockon sound pack is the best out there really awesome work, its only 1 i use ...... fighter ops will be fantastic in its sound, from what i hear it will be the most realistic in terms of sound ever done on a pc title....... https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
SUBS17 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Thats correct their sound engineer guy Rico has got some cool sounds of the F-16 already including cockpit ramp start. (the gruntiest engine start I've ever heard) I think they've put a toned down one on their website, the original file was very cool.(I still listen to it as its mixed with my ACDC MP3 files lol) [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
