EtherealN Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 It will run DCS:BS at absolute max settings. I'm unsure about monitors though - I use 24-incher 1080p, LED one from BENQ. Generally you'll get better color on a LED screen than an LCD one, but they cost more. Note that I do not know what performance to expect on a 2560x monitor if that's what you are looking at, since I've never used those myself. But DCS:BS should still run perfectly. DCS:A-10C should also run pretty well - close to max or max. awdrgyjo Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 thankyou, on hindsight 27 is a bit big might go for 24 inch
EtherealN Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Exact model name I use is BENQ V2420H. Very happy with it, even at the slightly higher price compared to an equivalent LCD panel. That depends a lot on your budget concerns though - especially seeing as you have already raised your budget once. I've previously used a BENQ G2200WT as main display, but that wasn't quite as much fun. The DVI socket wouldn't co-operate properly and allow the cable to "creep", gradually introducing minor distortions in the picture until I re-seat the cable. Definitely worth reading some reviews on the net before selecting a screen since there is a lot of variability even at the same price point. awdrgyjo Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 Well iv'e gone this far so a few pounds for a recommended monitor seems worth the money, this is exactly the advice I was looking for, thanks everyone for contributing to this thread, special thanks to EtherealIN, I will be ordering the PC in about a week or so, and look to communicating on the BS forums, cheers.
awdrgyjo Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 one last thing, the BENQ V2420H is advertised as an LCD display, so is it LCD or LED, thanks again.
Bolt-1 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) it looks like the sandybridge 2500k, navidia 570, and an extra 4GB RAM [8GB total] will that run BS at highest settings , or near? any suggestions for a 27'' monitor? thanks again. your gonna love that setup. look at my sig. I run DCS A-10C at max settings. AND I MEAN MAX !!! with FPS avg. in the 50's. altho i only use a 23 inch monitor and I'm OC'd a bit. The way the game runs and the graphic's are is stunning. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE 2500k !!! I just built mine 3 months ago. And it was alot easier than you think. My cost to build was $1600.00 US. The GTX 570 is a killer card for the $$$. And I also pumped in 8 gig's of ram. DONT FORGET GOOD COOLING ! you wont regret it. Edited October 4, 2011 by Bolt-1 My Specs. below ASUS TUF Z390 Pro Gaming I5 9600K@4.5 Ghz. 32 Gb. G. Don't mean to derail things, but I thought that the best image quality and colour reproduction monitors today still tend to be CCFL backlit. Most M/PVA and IPS panels are still CCFL backlit, and the LED backlit monitors are typically the cheaper TN panels. Also. Regardless of backlighting, all monitors these days are are generally LCD. EtherealN Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Also. Regardless of backlighting, all monitors these days are are generally LCD. Yes, I meant it more colloquially. V2420H is indeed LED-backlit TN. Fed with HDMI itdoes make a superb image, superior to anything I've ever tried (excepting the really overpriced alternatives). Obviously though, I haven't had a chance to test everything there so there might be better at the same price point - that's the point of reviews. :) Reviews that I checked real quick now give it a bit of an average rating, but I haven't tried the suggested alternatives (like PX2370). The reviews complain about the price point though, and at the price they quote (300+ dollars) I'd agree - was surprised to see those quotes. I got mine for equivalent to 200-ish. So if the prices quoted in those reviews are actually true, definitely worth at least investigating the alternatives. My previous one, the G2200WT is a CCFL-lit TN panel, and that one is not something I'd recommend anyone to purchase even at it's low prices (~120-150 dollars). awdrgyjo Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Track IR is £120 thats 70% the cost of the monitor why so expensive? and also any recommendations for keypad and mouse, thank you in advance.
Pyroflash Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Any Logitech keyboard will do you well. If you get a G15/G19, there is a nice Airfield applet that you can download to display a list of the airfields and their infos in DCS on your keyboard screen. For a mouse, I would highly recommend the Logitech G500, or the Razor Lacheises mouse(both are corded laser mice), they are both very superb products. I would not recommend any cordless laser mice though, as they tend to produce a lot of hits with their radios(meaning a lot of your mouse cursor spassing out over a temporarily lost transmission). If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
EtherealN Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Track IR is £120 thats 70% the cost of the monitor why so expensive? and also any recommendations for keypad and mouse, thank you in advance. The question of "why so expensive" is something that frequently creates a really heated debate. Suffice to say that it's not exactly a regular webcam; it's an IR unit with a relatively high refresh rate (120FPS), pretty good FoV (~52 degrees), sub-pixel resolution (complex to try explaining how that works), a pretty powerful software suite and built-in support for most games where it might be any sort of point to use it. If the pricetag seems prohibitive, you can try picking up a second-hand TrackIR 4 PRO. That's what I use and I'm pretty happy with it. On keyboards and mice, I use a Razer Arctosa keyboard which is a pretty nice no-frills unit. I would however not recommend purchasing keyboards over the net without testing them first - much better to go to a store that has demo samples and test the keys to make sure your fingers like the key size, depression resistances and all of that stuff. For a mouse I use a Razer Diamondback. Fairly cheap unit that still does the job, though it's design is more about shooters so if you are unused to that kind of mouse you'll end up accidently clicking the buttons a lot - they need almost no force at all to "click". One thing I really do like with it though is the four extra buttons - two on each side. They report as regular mouse keys to windows (so no special software required), allowing me to use them to control TrackIR while in the simulator. This is great because TrackIR normally wants some of the F-keys, but those are used in the simulator radio menus. However, almost all mice targeted towards gaming have that type of extra buttons - some having a rediculous amount of them, too. :P EDIT: Razer Lachesis is indeed a very nice mouse - bought one for my brother last X-mas and tried it out a bit. Very nice piece of kit. Both Lachesis and Diamondback are good for both left- and right-handed people, as well.
