sobek Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Can you please tell me in which manner could I check how many activation I have at time? Use protect.exe in your a-10 install directory, IIRC. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Charlie_01 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Thx. I've just found another way to do this into Starforce website, but with your way is quite more simple.
Vespar Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) Ive installed DCS A10 on both my computers using Steam, since the patch I gained one activation from one of the comptuers but lost one activation from the other computer and all I did was let steam update them. Can someone tell me how to deactive one of my machines so I can reload Windows 7 64bit without losing an activation? Im afraid ill lose another activation if I just deleting the local content using Steams uninstall method. At this rate everytime there is an update ill lose an activation. Is there a way to get my lost activation back? Edited June 13, 2011 by Vespar

You lost an activation yes - you were however granted one activation extra in any event with the patch so all things being even you are right back where you started. Uninstalling and reinstalling will not trigger activations on your PC, provided that you leave your registry entries alone. Also be advised that you need 2 licences to install on 2 PC's - might reflect negatively on your activation history if using one licence on 2 computers. As regards to deactivation, see this post - should tell you all you need to know: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=568704&postcount=3 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Vespar Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Yes I got 1 activation back for the 1st machine, but I lost an activation on the second machine, it didnt credit that one back.
Novac-185th Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Hi Can someone give me details as to how to find the number of activations I have left? After installing 1.0.0.8 I had a "few" problems and entered a "few" codes! Now worried I've used a lot of my activations!! It's the 1st thing I've bought with this "Starforce" system. I don't like it.... But looks like I'll have to live with it. BUT, to be honest I'm VERY impressed with the level of support that DCS provides. I bought the sim on the 1st beta release. And each time there's a patch it's "Wow" If this is the service I get from DCS I welcome the anti-piracy measures Cheers Novac.

Quite Correct - you are not supposed to activate one licence on two computers: One Licence/Copy = One Computer only. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? EtherealN Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Yes I got 1 activation back for the 1st machine, but I lost an activation on the second machine, it didnt credit that one back. That is because you got one activation back, not two. Do note that using the product simultaneously on two machines is in condradiction of the EULA. If you need multiple machines due to having one main machine and one for LAN parties (such as a laptop), that is fine and unfortunately not adjusted for in this case. But do please recall that the system automatically replenishes on a timed basis in such a time where you were to expend your last activation. If you were to run into trouble due to legitimate usage of your license, rest assured that ED customer support will handle your case. But do note that this is for a time when you have run out of activations completely and were to have a legitimate reason to ask for help beyond the normal and automatic replenishment. Requests for "refills" before your license key has been depleted are a waste of support staff time. Charlie_01 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Sorry but now no more true that!!! I just uninstall and re-install DCS A-10 after patched it to 1.1.0.8: the first time (when I patched from 0.7 to 0.8 at first) I spent an activation, but it was the one more added to every customers: ok, no problem... But when I've just unistalled and re-installed the 0.8 patched game I've spent another activation and this is not fair!!! As you said, when someone needs only to uninstall and re-install the sim activation should be not needed: it was true up to patch 0.7, I've tested it. But it's no more true since patch 0.8!! I have the A-10 full version 1.1.0.6 plus incremental patch 0.7 and 0.8, so every time I have to uninstall and install again now I need to add both patches and either every time now I add 0.8, I have to burn an activation!!! That's why ED added only an extra attivation at all, not a specific one related to every time patch 0.8 it could be added. So what about that???!!! Maybe I could download full version 1.1.0.8, but I believe in this way I should burn at least another activation to install it. Maybe in this way I can uninstall and re-install in the future without no other activation nor deactivation... However all that without any HW change!!! Edited June 14, 2011 by Charlie_01
Panzertard Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 1.1.0.8 would cost one activation - it's part of the upgrade. ED gave all customers 1 extra activation so you shouldn't run out. Anyway - being out of activation doesn't mean your game cannot be used anymore. Submit a support ticket when you hit 0, and support will refresh your account. The mind is like a parachute. 159th_Viper Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 ....and this is not fair!!! You're quite right! It's not fair that we have to repeat everything thrice over......It's all been stated countless times as Panzer stated. It's even categorically stated in the Official Updates Forum in the A-10C 1.1.0.8 Now Available thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=74726 DCS: A-10C Warthog 1.1.0.8 Patch Available Notes: 1- Because of an update to the copy protection, one activation will be used when installing the patch. However, one new activation will be added to your account. Charlie_01 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Ok I realized very well a new activation is added to every customer, but, as I said, this is not enough!!! The single extra activation can compensate only patching 0.8 for the first time. Maybe I wasn't quite clear: after patching the game to 0.8 for the first time, despite ED said at first, you need to spend a new activation every time you have to simply unistall and re-install the game i.e. adding patch again!! Is just this that is not really fair!!! Hope I was clear enough this time, so I believe ED should think about something to solve this issue. Or maybe ED could tell once at all "sorry: after patch 0.8 it's no more true that uninstall the game and install it again without any HW change don't need neither any activation or deactivation". Worst thing however is that: I don't believe the deactivation will be useful if you would uninstall the game , but you'll need only another activation every time after adding again patch 0.8 to the re-installed game. Surely I'll test this at the first opportunity, but I'm not sure if I could patch the deactivated game... Well, no problem ED says: after I've spent every activations I could still wait for a monthly added activation every time I need to re-install the sim or ask the support for a quicker new one... Uhm, maybe this could be only a little annoying... But that's the life, no??!!! :-\\\ Edited June 14, 2011 by Charlie_01

Download the full version of 1.1.0.8 - no need to use 1.1.0.7->1.1.0.8 patch http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=135&lang=en And again - do not confuse your activations with 'it's the end of life for my product'. If you run out, simply contact Support, and you'll recieve more activations. There's nothing unfair about this method. But if you choose to install 1.1.0.7 - activate it - upgrade to 1.1.0.8 and activate it too, well, there you go. Your choice. You chose to spend activations. You don't have to activate 1.1.0.7 - before an upgrade. You don't have to use 1.1.0.7 at all. You can go directly to 1.1.0.8 full version. So know you know how to avoid it, happy flying. ;) Edited June 15, 2011 by Panzertard The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

But can you confirm that if I do it, I'll have to burn down another activation to uninstall my full 0.6+patch 0.7+patch 0.8 and reinstall full 0.8? Or maybe I could do it spending only a deactivation, i.e. 1- deactivate my current composite installation "full 0.6+patches 0.7 & 0.8", then 2- uninstall it, after that 3- install full 0.8 and, finally 4- to reactivate this last one? In the end, I would tell you that your sims are great, but, despite I undestand you need to keep your "artworks" safe, maybe your protection is really more annoying for customers than for pirates... sobek Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 maybe your protection is really more annoying for customers than for pirates It isn't, once you understand how it works. :) Deinstalling the patched 0.8 and reinstalling the full 0.8 will not cost you an activation, unless you mess around with the registry data. sofie_59 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) Or just annoying for you! :music_whistling: Download the full 1108 and deactivate then install the full 1108 and activate and when 1109 is out just install the patch. And when the full 1109 is out you can download it and save it on a safe place whit your serie nr. And then if you need to you can deactivate and install it without loosing any activiations. and if i not got it wrong you get one activation per month untill you got 8, if you have loose any. Edit: After looking at Starforce page i see that i have only used 2 of 8 activations on Black shark And my activations of A 10 C is 3 of 11(so i got it a little wrong there) but the strange thing is that on the A10 C it says Ad activations monthly Enable And on Black Shark it says Ad Activations monthly disable? I got a lot of Activiations on both so it does not matter. You're making this way harder than it needs to be. You don't have to deactivate for an uninstall. I've uninstalled, reinstalled the sim countless times, way more than the number of activation's I have, and I still have 8 activation's. 1 Twitch Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Virtual Thunderbirds, LLC | Sponsored by Thrustmaster Z390 Aorus Xtreme, i9 9900k, G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB, 1080ti 11GB, Obutto R3Volution, Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, TPR, Cougar MFDs, FSSB R3L, JetSeat, Oculus Rift S, Buddy-Fox A-10C UFC, F/A-18C UFC, Tek Creations F-16 ICP
Charlie_01 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Well, it seems everything is good for everybody, so who am I to question about? I only know I spent 3 out 11 activations into first 3 months I've bought the game. And without any HW change!! What will be when I should have to do it?? :-\\
Panzertard Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Sir, you have to wrong focus. You didnt buy the activations - you payed for the right to use DCS, the simluator. You can use your product. Stop focusing on the activations. Please contact support when you're out of activations, and they will be able to assist you. Thread closed. The mind is like a parachute.
