tonym Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Is there any way of checking that having locked up a target with the TGP & TMS Fwd Long to make target SPI, that it has in fact made it the SPI. I have found that often it takes several TMS Fwd long's to make the target SPI & then when slaving the MAV the target will disappear from the TGP.
Melcar Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Is there any way of checking that having locked up a target with the TGP & TMS Fwd Long to make target SPI, that it has in fact made it the SPI. There's an indicator of which sensor is providing the current SPI on the bottom left of the Hud -- it'll start out as Steerpoint. Find the target in the TGP TMS fwd short to switch to Point track mode, TMS fwd long - Look at the bottom left of the Hud - should now say TGP indicating the TGP is providing the SPI. Then you can switch to Mav - and slave all with China hat fwd long. when slaving the MAV the target will disappear from the TGP. I'm not sure why that would happen. If you put TGP on the left MFCD, and MAV on the right -- make a SPI on the TGP -- make the right MFCD SOI, china hat fwd long; the Mav screen should slew to the same spot (provided you're within the gimbal limits of the Maverick). If not, point the nose of the aircraft at the Target. I have found that often it takes several TMS Fwd long's to make the target SPI My only guess would be that you're either masked or the TGP is in INR -- Make sure the TGP has a good view from the forward angle of the aircraft. -- If you can't switch to from Area/Point track mode then you can't designate a SPI.
SmokeyTheLung Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) What he said ^^^^ when slaving the MAV the target will disappear from the TGP. Also, sounds like you might not have actually set your SPI at you TGP line of sight (prob still set to your steerpoint). So when you china hat fwrd long to slave the Mav to the TGP you're resetting them both to your steerpoint. Aside from using the HUD to determine your SPI, you can check your TAD map. Your SPI will have a white symbol around it that looks like a wedding cake. If that symbol is centered in one of your waypoint marks you havn't set the TGP LOS as your SPI. If that white mark is on your TGP symbol on the map (green diamond) than you're golden Edited June 6, 2011 by SmokeyTheLung System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

tonym Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 Thanks guys. The HUD check is something new to me, so that may be the answer.
shadowmind Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I have found that often it takes several TMS Fwd long's to make the target SPI & then when slaving the MAV the target will disappear from the TGP. I just flew the second mission in the second campaign and encounted this problem. I've seen it before but I've always written it off thinking I pressed the wrong button. But during this mission I COULD NOT make a tank my SPI target. I get set the TGP to point target, and I would then to TMS FWD Long, but when I tried to slave all devices to this SPI, my TGP and MAV would go else where. So I finally gave up and put 700 rounds into the tank (which didn't kill it). About the only think I can kill with the gun is birds.

Also, if you are still a little bit out of Mav range it won't lock yet. If you are still over 7nm then you are too far out yet. hassata Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Sometimes I can't get sensors pointing (especially if gimbal limits for a while), so I cage and then slave. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
