britgliderpilot Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Was sitting around fiddling with skins, and wondering what to do . . . . and I decided to finally follow through on an idea I've been muttering about for ages. Very simple - edit the MeInit to turn the Su25TM (Su39) into an Su25, tweak the external skin, provide seat-moving mod. Been there before, done all that, and I reckon when we get the Internet Instructor mode back a twin-seat AFM aircraft would be a neat addition to the game. Especially for you 504th loonies  Have a look: It's currently using the Su25 standard HUD and cockpit, the skin is VERY rudimentary (no chance of making it transparent since there's no 3d cockpit-model underneath, but this works pretty well anyway), and I need to work out where the rear cockpit will go. This skin is only used for the Su25TM entry, but the cockpit position in the airframe is used for both Su25TM and Su25T entries . . . . so when I finally get around to doing a rear seat mod, you'll have to remember to switch that off before going back to the Su25T, otherwise things Will Look Weird. Oh, that reminds me . . . . I've got to download and play with Loman 4 while I'm there. Might come in handy. Feedback and estimations of rear seating position will, as ever, be appreciated. 1 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

504 Wolverine Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Feedback and estimations of rear seating position will, as ever, be appreciated. Where is my Su-25UTG? :p ;) Especially for you 504th loonies  . Great work mate.
britgliderpilot Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 Where is my Su-25UTG? Unfortunately . . . . I don't think it's possible to get the hook back to this aircraft. IIRC, JJ_Alfa did a mod for the Su-25UTG using the 3D model from Flanker 2 and some clever tweaks - but could only get the hook to work for the AI. It'd be a shame to waste the fantabulous model we have here, sooo . . . . shrug. Tell you what, though . . . . I can tag a Russian Navy cross on the skin if you like. You can do touch and goes on the Kuznetsov all day long, and land back at Saki - if you've seen the movie filmed by the sailors on the Kuz, then this may actually be of some appeal :) Might also be able to spawn it on-deck. Another thing interesting me at the moment is cockpits and avionics fits. I may end up doing two separate mods, of subtly different flavours . . . . Su25UB, and Su25UTG. Actual difference, zero . . . . grin . . . . but play with the cockpits to change the feel, and disable the HUD in the mod-included-missions for the Su25UB. Still wondering if I can get the twin-bar canopy from the Su25T with the Vanilla Frog cockpit . . . . mind you, with a disabled HUD there'd hardly be any difference. Carry on! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

Suppose this will have to do then. ;) :D I 'll just have to land the 25T on the deck ..... again. :D
britgliderpilot Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 Suppose this will have to do then. ;) :D I 'll just have to land the 25T on the deck ..... again. :D See, the really cool thing is that when you smack your new Su25UB into the deck for a touch-and-go like you see them do in the video . . . . . your landing gear will collapse in precisely the right way :D The problem will be that you won't have a hook, so your crippled aircraft will have to bounce off, climb away, and try and belly in at Saki. This could be even more fun than a real Su25UTG . . . . grin. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
504 Wolverine Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 No, I have been able to land successfully on the Kuz numerous times. We 504th BW pilots being so good and all. :icon_wink :p So much in fact I got bored with it. If you come in like a normal landing at around 250 KM/H or so and pop you chute and brake as soon as you touch the stern then you should stop just before you run out of deck. You have to watch out for the roll back down the ski ramp though and pump you brakes easy as you roll or you will hit you arse on the deck and break the frogs back. I'll try and dig up some screenes of it.
britgliderpilot Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 I hope this meets with your approval ;) In truth, I suck at landing the Su25 on the carrier . . . . this counted as a touch and go, but only in that I touched, and bounced so hard the landing gear ended up somewhere out of the top of the fuselage. Belly-landings beside the runway at Saki are where it's at, y'know :p In other news . . . . apparently, the Russian Navy Pilots are well known for Rocking Socks and stuff. Unfortunately, I don't . . . . that splash in the distance under the bridge is the top half of my tailfin . . . . oops. Directional stability? What's that then? Serious challenge to land the bugger like that . . . . needs constant rudder input to just keep straight. Really good fun, though. You'll be pleased to know this'll be a stock mission for the mod if/when I finish it ;) Low Bridge tours on online Su25 orientation flights with the 504th - can hardly wait . . . . . BTW, does anyone have a live link for Loman 4? The ones I've found are all dead. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
504 Wolverine Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 It takes a while to get used to landing on the Kuz but you'll get there in the end. Seems that the Loman 4 D/L on checksix is still active as well. http://www.checksix-fr.com/

Seems that the Loman 4 D/L on checksix is still active as well. http://www.checksix-fr.com/ Well it occurred to me just after posting that you probably weren't trying it with 80% fuel and four external tanks . . . . which probably didn't help. Will try again ;) Loman 4 download is now active again - didn't seem to be last night, don't know why. And it's just occurred to me now that you're a git, and I want your graphics card . . . . . . Very High water . . . . . . *jealousy* ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

britgliderpilot Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 On the plus side, I can report that a lightly loaded Su25UB is actually quite easy to do touch and go's with . . . . . oh well. Quite fun to fly, actually. I want my instructor mode back now . . . . sigh . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
504 Wolverine Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Yes. You've guessed correctly. 50% fuel with a moving carrier. :D I believe that some folks were also putting the carrier into the wind like IRL but I've never needed to do that myself (I don't understand the weather controls yet) :icon_redf Usually fly with my water on high for online flights but for screenies or any missions with only a few AI in them I use the Ultra High water. I usually try to keep my FPS at around 30.

504 Wolverine Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 P4 Prescott 3.2 HT, Aopen 6800 Ultra, 2 Gig Crutial DDR 400.
britgliderpilot Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 P4 Prescott 3.2 HT, Aopen 6800 Ultra, 2 Gig Crutial DDR 400. You're still a git :p Anyway, some minor modifications to the skin, and some more successful carrier touch-and-go stuff. My intention, just for the record, is to include a set of "Pilot's Notes" with the reworked two-seater mods - to replace the readme and give some instructions on the mod, backgrounds on the training aircraft, flying it, and so forth. Touch-and-go's will be in the pilot's notes, full stops won't be . . . . will include reference to 504th instructor pilots for that ;) Compare modified skin to RL Su25UTG: And in general shots: The final skin will include the Russian Navy flag on the fin, even if the real aircraft doesn't ;) I want to work more on the junction between the canopies, too - it's not right yet. However, this is more accurate than the previous attempts :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
britgliderpilot Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 This seems much better, somehow ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
504 Wolverine Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 The skin is developing well. :D Try moving the naval flag to the air intake and the russian flag to the rudder should look good. One thing though, I don't think that there is that large window on the top of the fuselage. On the real aircraft this looks like a periscope with a flip up panel

One thing though, I don't think that there is that large window on the top of the fuselage. On the real aircraft this looks like a periscope with a flip up panel Ah . . . . . then this brings up something interesting. The drawings I was working from appear to show a clear panel in the roof, with canopy bars level with the front cockpit. Those photos (new to me, cheers) show it to be different . . . . think perhaps my drawings were based on the Su25UB. A quick Google . . . . and damn, this is complicated! http://www.airwar.ru/enc/attack/su25ub.html Several rear canopy variations - including what seems to be a one-piece canopy for both cockpits on the T8UB, clear panel in the roof, and metal fill-in panel with forward-view periscope. The question is . . . . which to use? :p All would be correct - possibly more so the one with the periscope panel. However, then we run into a problem because the cockpit view from inside will still have a view out of the roof . . . . I think I'll stick with the clear roof - but I'll get started on the flag locations :) Actual variant of Su25 is a tricky question, too. Think it'll end up as an Su25UBM operated by 279KIAP. Su25UB with upgraded avionics, so the Su25T cockpits and functionality will fit . . . . operated by the 279KIAP, so the touch-and-go's (and skin) will fit . . . . and with the option to kill the HUD for steam-gauge navigation. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Kula66 Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Be careful with the 25/25T on deck! I landed a 25 (I think without damage) and as I was repositioning to try and launch down the full length of the deck, hit a arrestor pulley - tried to get over it ... after that I could only turn right!! :( Forum s/w painfully slow today!

Ah, the joys of the AFM . . . . ;) Anyway, slightly reworked skin: The included .doc is coming along nicely, too - next challenge is the loadouts and the rear seat placement, which I think might require another texture tweak as well as the careful measuring to work out where it goes . . . . Should have a basic mod ready at some point over the weekend - not two-seat capable, of course, but should be worth a look for Su25 nuts everywhere :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
504MrWolf Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 i brought the question up about the LAN/Internet Instructor being added again. Chizh replied saying it is now impossible as it was part of the LAN net code which has been removed perminantly. :( www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk

Wait for Internet instructor, please. __________________ Valery Blazhnov Lock On Development Team Eagle Dynamics http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
