Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Hey guys, I've been going through the training missions and for the life of me I can't get TMS UP to work! All the other TMS axes work except this one. I've mapped it to RALT + POV Hat Switch Up, so it isn't set to the default setting anymore, although that shouldn't make any difference. I've got stuck in the basic bombing and navigation missions because I can't get past the part where I have to use TMS Up to designate something. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Alexrey

Virtualwombat Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I too am having similar problems. I just upgraded to a TM Hotas Warthog. Do I have to change something in Target? I notice that there is no Target profile for DCS A-10C, only one for DCS Black Shark and one for DCS F2 F-15. do I use one of these? Cheers, Noel. Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) I use the Thrustmaster Top Gun Afterburner. I have also tried setting the TMS keys to LCTRL + Up/Down/Left/Right and that still didn't work, so I don't think that it is a problem with the joystick. I also have DMS, Coolie Hat and Slew controls set to my POV Hat Switch using a key modifier just like my TMS setting and I have no problem with those as well. Very weird. EDIT: How long are you keeping it pressed? I've tried pressing it for under a second and for over a second but it makes no difference. Edited June 19, 2011 by Alexrey
159th_Viper Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 .....I've tried pressing it for under a second and for over a second but it makes no difference. Keep it depressed for two or more seconds until SPI 'tadpole' appears. Does the keyboard command work (RCtrl-V long IIRC) when inputting via keyboard? Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 I'll re-map it to RCTRL + V and see what happens.
159th_Viper Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Apologies - default is LCtrl - UPArrow. Confirm that it does not work on your keyboard. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Looks like I wasn't holding TMS UP for long enough, sorry about this and thanks for sorting it out, it works now.

Just go to Misc. Options and hit: Synchronize Cockpit Controls with HOTAS Controls at Mission Start, that´s what I guess you´ve to do with TMWH Stick. Hope it´s not wrong since I dont have such. Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Hmmm, I just tried out the Precision-Guided Munitions tutorial and TMS UP no longer works, this is so frustrating!
Iceman2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I don't know if this helps with your problems, but I think you should download it anyway.. http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/59550/
Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Thanks Iceman, unfortunately I already have that installed.
Iceman2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I just did the mission and it worked all fine for me every command instructor said, maybe you need to need to re-check assigned buttons?
RglsPhoto Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Hi,You can test your HOTAS in the cockpit when the A/C is on the ground,if you can pass the test, your setup is correct(On MFCD STAT page, choose the HOTAS and press "TEST" OSB,follow the item listed at the MFCD to test the HOTAS function one by one.If you pass the current item, the MFCD will switch to the next one automaticly). That's the way I test my stick if something is wrong. FOXFIRE TWOONE Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I had the same issue with the TMS Lctrt + up key press recently and it took me about two week to get it to work again. I re-installed the SIM, my X52 solfware, and FC-2 thinking one or the other had someting to do with it and it still would not work, and that was the only key press I had trouble with. I finally got the bright idea of testing the key press in the X52 test window where it types out the key press's as you push the buttons on the hotas, had not thought of that before. Well that must have fixed the problem because it worked as it should, as before after that. So if your hotas has as simular type test window try it and see if it helps to get your key press reconized. Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 I see that my problem was very simple. I did not have any GBUs selected in the DSMS page prior to pressing TMS UP. I think that this tutorial as a big issue there because we are told to go to the TAD page and then straight after that we are told to use the TGP and TMS UP to go to point track (without first selecting a weapon). For newbies like myself, this could cause a lot of confusion and frustration!
159th_Viper Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 For newbies like myself, this could cause a lot of confusion and frustration! Which tutorial? I'll check - there is no need to have any ordinance selected on the DSMS prior to setting the SPI. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) It's the precision guided bombs tutorial, just before you hit the range. So I can go into TGP Area and Point tracking modes without having any weapons selected? Edited June 19, 2011 by Alexrey
159th_Viper Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) So I can go into TGP Area and Point tracking modes without having any weapons selected? Correct. Just keep in mind that Area and Point track modes have nothing to do with setting the SPI. Edited June 19, 2011 by 159th_Viper Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Alexrey Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Oh, so what exactly is the Sensor Point of Interest? Is it just where the sensor is looking at the time (i.e. the TGP could be looking at something in INR mode and that would still count as the TGP's SPI?). Back onto the topic: did you manage to get the same problem as I did, with TMS UP and not having a weapon selected?
159th_Viper Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Oh, so what exactly is the Sensor Point of Interest? Is it just where the sensor is looking at the time (i.e. the TGP could be looking at something in INR mode and that would still count as the TGP's SPI?).... Yes - a SPI is just an arbitrary 3D point in space, but only if that point in space has been designated as such. In other words, the TGP could be looking at a pimple on a fly's a$$ in INR mode and it would still not be SPI unless and until you decide to set the pimple as the SPI. Until then, it's just another pimple........ Back onto the topic: did you manage to get the same problem as I did, with TMS UP and not having a weapon selected? Have not checked yet. Murf7413 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Ok... Well I am using a TM Cougar HOTAS... I am doing the navigation training, and I can't get the Lt. Ctrl + rt. up arrow OR the TMS switch to function... and I have tried holding them anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds.... no joy... kind of hard to move on when you can do as the instructor asks!!! Any definitive answers on what the deal is, or what I am doing wrong... or possibly a fix/ work around for the COUGAR is??? This seems to be a problem with a lot of folks!! intel i7 960, Liquid cooled case, Vista 64bit, 8MB RAM, nVidia GTS250 XLR8 Extreme Performance 1MB, TM COUGAR HOTAS
Alexrey Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Try selecting a weapon first in the DSMS and then try; that fixed it for me, although, as Viper says, you don't usually need to do this to get TMS UP to work.
