Ali Fish Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) Stumbled upon this earlier and was immediatly intrigued enough to have a proper look. im not a big fan of mmo's or anything remotely similar but this is actually very good and as a BSG fan i just had to try it. Presently in beta stage and designed as a Free to play mmo a very fitting adaptation of the latest Tv series into a decent F2P mmo game. with mechanics akin to the latest twitch shooters with a deep and broad set of RPG gameplay mechanics appearing in the Unity3D engine which is proving to be a fantastic piece of kit !!! . Do check it out space sim fans you maybe pleasantly suprised. DCS mkII Viper ftw ! http://eu4.battlestar-galactica.bigpoint.com/ Edited June 21, 2011 by Ali Fish [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Succellus Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Has it anything not offered before ? Planetary descent ? Newtonian physics ? HMD ? Clicable cockpit ? Multiple USb comtroler support ? Head tracking support ? Evolution offline ? full galactic comerce ? be able to build an empire ? An army ? Just RTB (real time battle ?) It has to have all that nowadays to try to take some kick at EVE. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. Track IR 5, Hall sensed Cougar, Hall sensed TM RCS TM Warthog(2283), TM MFD, Saitek pro combat rudder, Cougar MFD.
WynnTTr Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I don't think it will even try to take on EVE. I can't view the site at work - it's blocked (bloody work filters, what do they expect me to do all day?) but I'm surmising that it's more an action combat space game where you're either a Raider, Viper or Raptor. While fun for a bit dunno if that's enough to make a game worth playing months down the track. But Ali did mention RPG elements so maybe it's like a traditional mmo with a BSG skin?

digitaljjd Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I just found this review from a few days ago: "Having played BGO for a while now I feel it's time to throw in the towel on a game that I used to love. I'll dip back in now and again in the hope that they've fixed it but I think TOR or even JGE will be here before then. Here's some of problems: You CANNOT compete against the Wallet Warriors unless you become one too or spend ALL day looking for a Water planetoid that if you don't get blasted off of instantly, you will have to sit on for HOURS. How can Bigpoint call it a Beta when they already have the mechanics to charge for Cubits etc in place? There are very few missions available and after a while they just become too tedious to contemplate finishing (Scanning 100 asteroids every day?) The game has developed into a series of Zerging the Outposts and being Spawncamped. And to me that's the biggest problem: F2P microtransaction games seem to be made to satisfy 1 type of player: The Haribo fuelled screaming teenager whose ADHD prevents them from realising how dishonourably they play. They don't care about exploiting bugs: "If they didn't want us to use it they would taken it out!" They love screaming in Open Chat about how you're a noob because you got destroyed by 12 Strike craft all sitting inside your ship. They moan about Spawncamping while doing it themselves. They'll use any means necessary to WIN, because: "That's the point isn't it?" And Yes; I can say this, particularly as the parent of one. So: If it's a game you want to get involved in and play for about 4-5 weeks before tiring of the repetition or if it's an exercise in futility you're looking for then give it a try. " Too bad. Beyond the Red Line had lots of promise. I tried that, but could never get the TrackIR to work. It was really really cool though.
104th_Crunch Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 you guys are unbelievable. its a FREE TO PLAY GAME not a $20 a month job. I don't care if they pay me to play it. You still have to enjoy It and even though it is free to play it still has a revenue model as noted in the post above.

And usually they are riddled with bugs that the developers doesnt care to look in cause its free. Depth Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 It's on the Freespace 2 Source Code Project They've REALLY hammered that engine to make it support MMO playstyle The source code project comes from a group of guys who REALLY liked Freespace 2 (which I do, and I still play the SCP). The BSG mod comes from a group of guys who REALLY like BSG. Looks like they took the mod a little further. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

It has been going on for a while now.
YorZor Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Beyond the Red Line is kinda dead... Most of the team moved and made a new BSG mode called 'Diaspora' and is yet to be released. But it looks awesome and they've made some of the models for the BSG MMO. http://diaspora.hard-light.net/
