Hey,

 

I don't quite understand why the Pinky Switch Center and Pinky Switch Forward positions would physically flip the collision lights switch to the off position, rather than just overriding the switch and disabling collision lights while Pinky Switch remains in these positions, allowing it once again to illuminate once the Pinky Switch is set to the Aft position should the collision light switch be set to the on position at this point.

 

Are you sure it really is like this in the A-10? It makes less sense to me this way, because like it is now, I have to look away in order to look down to turn the collision lights on again every time I fence out, rather than just flipping the Pinky Switch back into the Aft position.

100% sure, the collision light switch is solenoid held. That's what all the guys working on the actual plane say.

 

It makes less sense to me this way, because like it is now, I have to look away in order to look down to turn the collision lights on again every time I fence out, rather than just flipping the Pinky Switch back into the Aft position.

 

To me it makes a lot of sense, since the AC lights are, AFAIK, only used during takeoff and landing.

I can also validate that yes it works like that in the real bird. When I was on active duty I was APU run qualified and one thing we have to check on BPO/PR flight inspections is lights.

 

People would be suprised the amount of training we have to go through as crew chiefs to get APU or Engine run qualified. I lost my qualifications when I went from active duty to reserves. APU run is a 2 day class, I'm scheduled to go to that class in July. Running the APU is simple, remembering all the emergency procedures is a pain (have to pass the test with a 100%).

Emergency procedures are the toughest thing to retain so i keep a red binder by my left foot with all emergency procedures for a quick review. Practicing emergency procedures is not glamorous but will save your life.

" I'm gonna have to be taking your car today. See I have some top secret clown business that supersedes any plans that you might have for this here vehicle."
