Yskonyn Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I am planning on getting the TS MFD panels, but that means that I will be short on USB ports with all the other hardware I am running. So I was wondering wether you guys have any tips for good gaming-proof USB 2.0 hubs. Links would be appreciated if you post a tip, please. Get them in, lads! :joystick: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus Z390-E, 32GB Crucial Ballistix 2400Mhz, Intel i7 9700K 5.0Ghz, Asus GTX1080 8GB, SoundBlaster AE-5, G15, Streamdeck, DSD Flight, TM Warthog, VirPil BRD, MFG Crosswind CAM5, TrackIR 5, KW-908 Jetseat, Win 10 64-bit ”Pilots do not get paid for what they do daily, but they get paid for what they are capable of doing. Runibl Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Been using these myself from Sandberg: http://www.sandberg.it/product/USB-Hub-AluGear-7-ports Bought at a local shop. Have served me very good for quite a while. Have both Thrustmaster MFDs plugged in there, two external harddrives and my Thrustmaster Warthog Joystick (Throttle plugged directly to pc.). Also have another 4 port hub plugged in there. And also own and use a smaller 4 HUB from them as well, can't find it on their webpage (probably out of production). Runi. Krebs20 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) I'll let you know what I'm using when I get home. Until then. ONLY LOOK AT POWERED HUBS. I cannot stress this enough. The mfds draw a lot of power. Also, some powered usb hubs don't supply enough power for the usb and become unstable. A usb port is limited to 500 milliamp. So a 4 port usb hub should have a 2 amp power ac adapter. A 7 should have around 3.5. I have made the mistake and bought the cheapest usb hub I could find. It would reset mid flight which can ruin you virtual day. It was 7 port with a 2amp adapter. Didn't work well. Edited June 23, 2011 by Krebs20 bad math. .5x7=3.5 not 4.5 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Phantom_Mark Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I guess my 10 port with 1amp is utter junk then lol Maybe I can get an uprated psu for it??
Yskonyn Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 Thanks for the feedback so far guys! Krebs point was exactly why I started this thread. Could we please have some models listed here which qualify? Nu-NRG Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Maybe, if possible, you can look after the PCI card that had USB ports on it. Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
Krebs20 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Well. I just got home and checked what I own now. I looked it up on newegg and the reviews are horrible. lol. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817394045 I don't know why I have not had a problem with it. I've owned it for over a year now. I run my hotas, track ir, mfds, and a portable hard drive. 5 ports out of 7 everyday. It has worked flawlessly for me. I pretty much plugged everything in and pushed it off the back of my desk. On a side not. The ac adapter is twice as large as the hub. With my luck today it will fail next week when I have a week vacation from work. :P Good luck finding one for your needs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Yskonyn Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 Thanks again, guys. WarriorX, doesn't your suggestion lack a power supply? I thought most people here would vote against unpowered hubs? Svend_Dellepude Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 From my experience you can't really trust those usb hubs one bit. The power supplies are always build really cheap and that is maybe the one thing you need the most. As far as i know there is no real standard of how much power you should be able to draw from usb and therefor the hubs differ very much in quality. I just had the powersupply on one of those sandberg in one of the previous posts fail on me after three weeks. You can buy a hub and then a seperate powersupply that will provide sufficient power or you can buy anyone and if it does the job, good! From my experience its kind of a lottery. WarriorX Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) Thanks again, guys. WarriorX, doesn't your suggestion lack a power supply? I thought most people here would vote against unpowered hubs? The one I suggested is powered. It just does not show in the packaging view. These have worked well for me, I have one dedicated to just my TM Warthog joystick and throttle, nothing else plugged in to it. I agree, that you do not want an un-powered hub.
