leroy1964 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Hi guys and gals, I am still having major issues with the A/C in general, let me elaberate (did I spell that right LOL?) Anyways, some real strange stuff happening in cockpit re-instruments. I am thinking joystick calibration however am unsure how to calibrate "in game":joystick: This is what is happening, please visualize for me. I am flying straight and level at say 10ft. I can say this as the view outside directly in front of me is level with panels. Having said that both the hud pitch ladders (which I know move left to right etc) are on the extreme left and I do mean extreme, any further left and they would be off the hud LOL. Now if that wasn't bad enough the little circle thingy in the dead centre of the instruments (is it called VSI or something like that?) anyways it moves up down and left and right black when desending and white when climbing or vice versa. Here's the issue, that little round thingy has matched the pitch ladders so i cant question that, but and it is a big but, did you all remember the A/C is straight and level. ummm wtf is going on, how can the A/C be level and believe you me it is, and this circle thingy and pitch ladders are doing there own thing?:pilotfly: This is really doing my head in, have I pressed a key which has "uncaged" something I have heard that a pre-flight check list don't you sometimes have to set that round thing like calibrate it? With out ranting (too late:helpsmilie:) how can the A/C be level yet these two instruments are all over the shop. And guys, sorry to mention it again, I don't know if my game needs to be unistalled and re-installed but (and I know in training and some missions default is "real) however "Radio is still not working" and for most part I am playing on "game/easy" settings and have been told it should work, again wtf? I can understand on real settings you have to adjust everyting but when playing on easy you don't, or have I got that wrong?:noexpression: No point having a wingman if one can't speak with him over radio, right? Before I leave, the joystick is calibrated in windows fine, so i can't understand this "all over the place" and A/C wanting to keep turning left every five minutes. If anyone can help help, you have all been excellent so far but I am worried I may stop playing as I did with DCS Blackshark because of little quirls like this (really spoils the game imho). Again thanks :helpsmilie:
mvsgas Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Can you post a track? It would help to understand. Is there any wind in the mission you are using? Keep in mind that Flight path marker does not have to be centered if you are flying straight and level. Just because you are straight and level it does not mean you are flying straight. Aircraft will be affected by wind drift. One of the reasons HSI has heading set indicator and course set indicator. Most aircraft have this to correct wind drift (among other things) To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
mvsgas Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 If wind drift is the cause, this might help to explain http://www.free-online-private-pilot-ground-school.com/navigation-principles.html Basically the the flight path marker (FPM, circle thing with lines in both sides and the top) is showing the drift. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. GGTharos Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Track or didn't happen! :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Nu-NRG Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) Track please or screenshot at least. But trying to be helpful anyway: left of right drag of pitch panels would be caused by wind, rudders or uneven payload. The ADI should match the pitch ladders when EGI is aligned and OK and selected on NMSP. It should be still when on autopilot. The thing you un-caged is called SAI - Standby Attitude Indicator. It's job is, to provide you with orientation when HUD and ADI dies out on you (eg power loss) The A-10C has three radios. AM, UHF and FM. Make sure you are using the right one, that it is powered up, and tuned in to the correct frequency. But as it was said many times, track helps best. Oh and BTW, there is no quick and dirty in this sim. Dig in to manual :D Edited July 13, 2011 by Nu-NRG Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
159th_Viper Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I may be mistaken, but it appears almost as if you're trying to do too much too soon and getting overwhelmed by it all........I know: I've been there - That was Me when I started testing the A-10C. It is actually compounded by the fellow forum members who attempt to help with the best of intentions, but swamp you with sensory overload with SPI this and WPI STTP that and a wee bit more of TGP sprinkled with TGSSD, finally followed by ADD and RTI etc etc............I know - it's funny that way. Take a step back, relax and take things one wee step at a time - this is not a race. Even today the best I get out of the SIM is simply to start her up and fly around, appreciating the scenery, all else be damned. OK - what I am trying to say is identify a specific issue and deal with that prior to moving on. Set up missions with zero weather/wind/turbulence and just potter about and get a feel for the airframe and the cockpit and all else will follow as a matter of course. Oh yes - most importantly: Post a Track :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! leroy1964 Posted July 13, 2011 Author Posted July 13, 2011 Big thanks As usual excellent replies. I do realise this is a very complex game and 10 out of 10 to you guys and gals that can firstly understand it and secondly play ops fly this sim "we don't play sims eh?" I guess (if I sound frustrated I am sorry just a little with some little things thats all) I aim to read the manual and work on my spelling LOL however it was 3am when I posted and no coffee ;) I guess from previous flight sims and my short but brief time in the RAAF and lucky enough to go up in a few different jets that "ball" from the previous post maybe ADI is it, always semed to match what the A/C / pilot was doing (even if there was a strong wind etc, remember I am no pilot) Good news was if your all interested was the test pilot couldn't get me to chuck (and believe you me he tried LOL) ops off topic:megalol: Anyways I do have atendency to ramble, main point was I am sure that black and white ball in the centre is not meant to show extreme lefts and right when the "nose of the A/C" is pointing straight and level. I guess that is all I was trying to say. Two final questions before I go and print this manual is: Do you need to calibrate the joystick "in game" and what is a track and how do I post one. Oh and before you all think I can't figure stuff out for myself, can you answer me another question as I am unable to find an answer. I realise that on "real" settings in this game you have to do heaps, however in "game" settings radio "should work" or do I need to do as the previous guy said and set channel, freq etc to get it to work? In Blackshark on easy settings you just hit "\" and the corresponding key, doesn't seem the case with A10C? To the guy that said enjoy and take it one thing at a time I agree, thanks I am going to print the manual and take it slow, btw if you couldn't believe my luck the print screen wont capture the images in game for me to show you otherwise I would have. I might do a uninstall and a fresh re-install, see if this fixes all these little problems. On a more positive note, i bought a brand new gaming keyboard for A10C my son says it is quite good it is a Razer lycoza or something like that, keyboard lights up, cool eh? Again thanks and for those that might ask what A/C I have been up in, I have been lucky enough to go up in most A/C the RAAF had at ARDU at my time there. Cheers all:thumbup:
GGTharos Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Which part of the 'track or it didn't happen' fell through? :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
leroy1964 Posted July 13, 2011 Author Posted July 13, 2011 Thats cool Be nice, I was saying to you all in my reply I don't know what a track is? I will look it up after work, as I am heading of to work in 20 minutes, been up since 3am with insomnia. Cheers Mr Mod Man:thumbup: Which part of the 'track or it didn't happen' fell through? :)
GGTharos Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 When you end a mission, it gives you the option to save a track. Save the track and upload it here. Make it short - five minutes of stuff is more than enough - so only record one to demonstrate the problem. PS: Insomnia sucks. WarriorX Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) To add to slackerD's post, you should switch from HARS mode to EGI mode on the NMSP panel (the panel is just in front of the stick above the circuit breakers). There are a couple of things you need to make sure are done before you can switch from HARS to EGI mode. You need to wait until you have reached full INS alignment( T=4.0 0.8 on the CDU align page), then switch to NAV mode, (also on the CDU align page) before you can switch from HARS to EGI mode. With EGI mode set, you can now arm your EAC and ALT under your throttle, which will give you autopilot functionality. Nu-NRG Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) When you press Print Screen button it saves a screenshot in to USER folder and NOT in to game folder. On windows 7 it's in C:\users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS A-10\Screen Shots. At the end of the mission you have an option to save the track. It offers you the path to save so basically you can save it anywhere on the hard drive. Another nifty thing about track playback is that you can take control of the aircraft at any time.
