ZQuickSilverZ Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) I am WH_QuickSilver and I am a bobblehead. What is a bobblehead you may ask? A bobblehead is a term I have invented for people that fidget so much that it makes TrackIR difficult to use. It is not a problem with the hardware. It is a problem with the user. What I am after is a profile that kind of "sticks" to center. Say a 3 inch tolerance. before it starts movement. Can anybody help me out with this. I need your help Mr. Wizard (whoever you may be). bogusheadbox Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 You know, i have owned and operated TrackIR for umpteen years and (even with trackIR5 software) I have not seen any settings for "dead zones". However there is one thing that can help you out. One of the function keys (E.g. f12 by default centralises your view) may be of some use, going by memory here so the Fkey may be wrong you will need to experiment. I think F9 pauses tracking. If you are looking in a certain direction you can press this to pause tracking so your head can bobble as much as you like and you keep looking stright ahead (or the direction you were looking in at the time). Then when you wish to look around, you press it again to unpause. Alternatively I think its f8 - is a button that slows and smooths the movement of trackir. If you bobble head is of small movements and you are not headbanging out while shooting vihkers, then this button may be of use as well. Give it a go and let me know if it helps. If this helps, you may be able to bind these function to your stick for quick operation.
bogusheadbox Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Forgot to mention. If you are new to trackIR, bobbleheading is a normal occurance. You will in time naturally learn to keep your head still. (unless you are headbanging whilst shooting vihkers) Or have a twitch. Or in an earthquake Or being mugged

P.S. How do you post these videos to play IN the forum? Give yourself a little rest - between the TrackIr sessions- after you have changed the settings - your brain have to get used to it first... and you will see that it will be become more naturally from time to time and your muscles will know what to do absolute unconsciously and it will become a "second" nature how you look around. As much as I would like to give you a working profile- My experience is that everyone tunes his profile in a different way and it also highly depends how far you sit in front of the cam and so on... Use the search function there are many threads about how to set it up. Edited July 14, 2011 by PeterP
ZQuickSilverZ Posted July 14, 2011 Author Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) I have had my TrackIR about a year. Ironically I think it is my chair that is the problem (I use an oak kitchen chair). I think if I had a chair that leaned me back instead of hunching forward (a bigger monitor would help to I think as I have to lean forward to see any targets at all) it would help a lot. I think leaning back would make my body a lot more stable. Think that might be the problem? Is it a simple matter of comfort and ergonomics? Thanks PeterP for showing me how to put Youtube videos IN the forum. Can we make bobblehead an offical term? Edited July 14, 2011 by ZQuickSilverZ I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? MackTheKnight Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I highly recommend the Steelcase Leap, if you're looking for an excellent ergonomic chair and can afford it. It solved my back pain when simming for hours at a time: http://www.steelcase.com/en/products/category/seating/task/leap/pages/overview.aspx As for the bobblehead issue, I agree with the others. Once you get used to track-ir, and solve your ergonomic woes the problem will go away. -Mack
