Weasel Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Dear all I really can't waite until I will get the Box Version of the A-10C Simulation! However, I'm planning to buy a second monitor for a great game ambience. I actually have a 22" Samsung Syncmaster 2253BW TFT and I want to buy a second TFT of the same model. On Youtube, I saw several videos with three monitors and this looks just fantastic. But how is the ambience with "only" two monitors? If I would buy a second monitor, would you suggest the same model as I already have? Cheers Weasel
tjhowse Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I have two monitors, with my MFCDs set up on the left one with hawgtouch providing OSBs. Having bigger, more details MFCDs is brilliant. I wouldn't split the cockpit view over two monitors though, the bezels would ruin it.

Indeed, the center of your HUD would be split, it would be nearly impossible to do anything except just fly.:noexpression: ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Weasel Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for your replies. I didn't know that the cockpit will be splitted. So it would be better playing with 3 monitors, then you have the cockpit in the middle and on the other side the landscape/sky or when you move your head then you can see the consoles, is that rigt?
CEPEGA Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 don't forget that for 3 monitor setup you need an additional grafic card or TrippleHead. I'm playing on 2 Monitor setup (both MFCD's (with HawgTouch) on one 19" 4:3 monitor and the cockpit on 27" 16:9 monitor) in addition with TrackIR 4 it's more than enough for me. EtherealN Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Thanks for your replies. I didn't know that the cockpit will be splitted. There will be "splits" on all multimonitor setups - the bezel on the screens will be there. Thing with doing this on a two-screen setup is that the screen bezels will be in the middle. So you'll have the screen edges right where your HUD is... This will be a great annoyance. Note, though, that most 3-screen setups rely on Eyefinity, which is AMD Radeon only. nVidia will only support two screens unless you run multiple GPU's. Eyefinity is also easier to get to work since it'll operate as if your screens aren't actually multiple screens but just a big composit. (If I've understood it right - I haven't used that myself.) Personally I fly on my main screen and have whatever else on the second screen. This can be anything from just TeamSpeak, or manuals, or various documentation for testing use when applicable. Going dual-screen is awesome even if you don't actually have the game on both - eliminates the need for alt-tabbing pretty much completely. shu77 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yeah I agree 2 monitors is fine, with MFCD output onto the second. i use the 'Phantom monitor fix' to center my cockpit view on the first, have my MFCD's on the second, and then Teamspeak in the vacant space below that. metalnwood Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 yes, two monitors will be fine just dont use the second for the main view, put something like helios and the mfd's on it. Depending on your budget make the second screen a touch screen and you will be very, very happy with helios and the mfds on it. I am not sure that Ethereal is correct that you need multiple nvidia cards to run just two monitors. You do to run their eyefinity equivalent though.
CEPEGA Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) if your nvidia has two dvi's (wich is standart since some years) you don't need an additional card for 2monitor setup. Additional card is only needed for a 3rd (or theoretical 4th) because you need than additional dvi's where you can plug in the 3rd or 4th monitor. EDIT: btw, i ordered a new card (nvidia GTX560ti) wich should be delivered in one or two days. This card has 2x DVI and one HDMI, is it possible to plug in a 3rd monitor to it? Weasel Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 There is a great video on youtube regarding flying with 3 screens: As written, there is a problem with the FPS when playing with 3 screens. I believe it's better when I buy a bigger (27") TFT (I actually have a 22"). Regarding the MFDs, I already ordered the MFD Cougar package and I will later buy two 7" USB-TFTs so that I have two fully functional MFDs. @CEPEGA According to Google and the Nvidia homepage, it's possible to plug in a 3rd monitor.
