ch571ck Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Does anyone know how to convert FSX models to lockon or 3ds max?

RED9R1pper Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 lol, my bad. Was just looking at thread titles and this caught my interest. There are a ton of free mods on the microsoft flight sim scene that if asked, creators would be willing to let others rip into other sims free of charge but like i said...only with express permision. ED Team JimMack Posted October 5, 2011 ED Team Posted October 5, 2011 I have had questions from modders who have created FSX add-ons to the effect:- Does anyone know how to convert FSX models to lockon or 3ds max? So an answer to this question would be useful. Having problems? john_X Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 it is not possible. only if you contact the author, if he wants, he can give the .max file or he can convert it himself from .max to .lom, step by step, as we do with all the mods, traditionally, so no special tool, there is no compatibility

HungaroJET Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 That's not true. There are converters that will at least get you the mesh and texture mapping intact. Jim, shoot me a PM if you're interested, I'd rather not discuss it publicly on the boards. :) Yes, it's possible. I know some really talented persons (they made own models too) who did these FSX-DCS/FC conversions. They are able to convert plenty of 3D extensions to LOM/EDM (or more). The hardest part is converting/sharpening animations as i heard. But yes, conversions are legal only with permission of authors. Atop the midnight tarmac, a metal beast awaits. aaron886 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Right. Animations are usually completely lost, and truth be told that's one of the hardest parts of modeling in the first place, anyway. All you get out is the mesh. It's possible, just easily abused, unfortunately.
speckfire Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I know for sure that an existing FC2 IL-76 addon was once a FS2004 plane. Speed is life !!!
aaron886 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Yes, definitely. That would be copyright infringement.
