razorseal Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Hey guys I've been gone for some military stuff for a little while now (close to a year) and want to get back in the game... my version was 1106 and I see there is 1108 now... I'm downloading the torrent for it, but I want to keep my kb settings that I had from 1106... is there anyway I can do this? I actually want to keep the graphic/audio and all that godd stuff too... is this possible? thanks!!!
latearrival Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Assuming you are running Windows 7, you can try copying the folder c:\users\(your name)\saved games\dcs warthog\config\input to somewhere safe, doing the upgrade and then copying the folder back. With a bit of luck this may preserve your keyboard settings. I'm not so sure about the graphics/audio settings as these options change between different releases - you may just have to set your preferences up again yourself. CrashEd Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I'd also like to know what happens when you import a kb file from an older version? I have a kb file backed up from before the release version that has custom key bindings (I use it with my programmable keyboard). Say, for instance, some new functions are added in a lter version that require new keys, would I be missing out on those keys by using an old keyboard file? Or does DSC:WH just parse the file and allocate the bindings?? (sorry to hijack your thread razorseal!)
CrashEd Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 It breaks the sim. Don't do it. The kb format changes every version. You'll get all sorts of blanks in the controls. You might be able to manually text edit large portions but save/load, not a chance. Hmm, that's a bit pants. Especially as I have 128 kb entries! Looks like a manual edit is the way forward.
razorseal Posted July 23, 2011 Author Posted July 23, 2011 Bummer... so I'll have to redo them... oh well
VMFA117_Poko Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Best way to download whole new version of the sim and redone kb settings from scratch - with this solution you won't waste your time, i promisse.
latearrival Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Thanks for pointing that out slackerD. Hopefully, preserving our configs across patches will be a 'feature' that is introduced at some point. Every other sim/game I play remembers my settings so it does seem a little unusual to make us redo our config every patch... razorseal Posted July 23, 2011 Author Posted July 23, 2011 ok, updated the game and launched it... all my settings have been kept, including graphics sweet!
ivanwfr Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011  sh*t, it was very close but we've just missed an occasion to rant badly against ED. But no worry, we'll find some eventually...
razorseal Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 how about ranting about DYNAMIC CAMPAIGN that's the only thing I'll never forget about Falcon 4.0... that was such a cool feature. I don't know any other game/sim to implement that
Frostiken Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 And it's the first patch in DCS history that doesn't overwrite your keyboard settings, change all your options to default, and leave you by the side of the road. Can I get an amen!? No. Still good times though :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
