Is there any way to get the TGP to measure the distance between two points? It seems like it should be a very easy thing for the TGP to display, but I can't find out how to do it.

The TGP displays a yard stick by default (the number on the right hand side of the right crosshair) You can toggle it to display in meters or feet (meters is default). The yardstick reference being one of the horizontal lines of your crosshair. Obviously the value will change depending on your field of view.

You could also accomplish this using markpoints/waypoints for larger distances. I'm sure there are many other ways to do it that I can't think of!

Yeah I know about the yardstick crosshairs but it is only useful to measure the distance btween objects that lie in a plane perpendicular to the LOS of the TGP. I kinda figured with the Digital Terrian System the A-10 has, the TGP should be able to take advantage of it to display distances between targets.

Than markpoints/waypoints it is my friend!

The TGP can be slaved to a grid, and with the DTS it will know the elevation. But it doesn't really know what it looking at :) it wont auto recognize targets for you, you have to let the plane know that you've found a point of interest. Or in your case two points of interest, you'll have to do the math on distance. You could hook your marks on the TAD and get distance with 1 mile accuracy

Ok right so I understand what you're saying about markpoints, but the problem is I don't know how to get exact distances between markpoints (ie in meters or feet). What I really wanted to use this for is to quickly figure out distances between vehicles in formation for ripple intervals, and to measure overall size of groups for HOF settings on CBUs. Also, if you could quickly estimate distances then you could time a vehicle traveling a short distance on a road and thus determine its speed. Then you could more easily time/aim unguided bombs or JDAMs to intercept moving ground targets (especially ones on roads). I just figured that the TGP should have the DTS "knowledge" to do this easily, but maybe its just not something they included in the interface on the A-10.

Just use an LGB for a moving target. You'd almost never get it correct with JDAMs since you need excact speed of vehicle, ToF etc.

And the yardstick is enough to measure overall size group or atleast get some approximation which is enough. CBUs aren't that precise after all.

I use the yardstick for that myself. It's worth noting that it's quite rough, as you stated you have to have a proper aspect to get a reliable measurement. Also, the zoom isn't exactly sensitive, so that's been a bit of a problem for me as well.

Hopefully someone else has a few tricks up their sleeve that they're willing to share

I'm probably never going to go through the trouble of using anything but the built in yardstick myself, but hey you never know:)

Slacker, the yardstick IMHO is quite useful for getting a sense of ripple spacing for dumb bombs.

Try HOOK-CURS option on TAD. See attached screenshot.

How about committing the lengths of some vehicles to memory, or having a reference card and then using them as yardsticks for these purposes?
