Could anyone explain what function is related to indicator that sometimes appears on my HUD? On attached picture it's the one highlighted with red rectangle...

It has something to do with the Sidewinder missile, if you do the Air to Air training mission the instructor tells you what it is.

Roll reference, think of it as a ADI duplicator.

If you are in A2A mode,

Check page 390 of the manual, paragraph 3

Multiple Reference Gunsight (MRGS)

Thanks for quick reply, but this is not working as MRGS, and there's no typical "breathing". Instead, these dots are falling down until they meet right under this short vertical line.

Do you have a full pic of the HUD or a track, that could help

I have cockpit screenshot:

EDIT:

I've tried to switch to AIM-9 and indeed this indicator appeared on the HUD, but it makes me wonder then, because in previous situations I didn't used AIM-9 (haven't tried to learn them yet), and there was no this Sidewinder specific circle between these dots. Instead there was only what You can see on the screenshots. Is there some specific button that enables this indicator only?

BTW, I've registered track from my testing.

Just to be clear, this indicator is not related to the AIM-9 missile. It's the MRGS, as others have mentioned, which is a tool for the gun in air-to-air mode. Gun, not AIM-9s.

You'll only get the Sidewinder seeker indicator if you have Sidewinders... maybe in the earlier you case you accidentally switched into air-to-air mode (by holding the master mode button) and you weren't carrying Sidewinders in that particular mission? You'll still get the gun aiming reticule, assuming you're carrying the gun. :D

Ok, that's pretty clear for me, and as soon as I'll be back at home, I'll do tests focused on this matter, but meanwhile, I'd like to ask You guys, what is another indicator visible as additional dots that sometimes appear at the end of the TVV "wings"? Is it indication of airstream separation or something? In my track You can see, that it appears when I am doing some more aggresive turns...

Do you mean the double dotted lines visible in page 394, figures 283 and 284? If so, they're doing the same job as the "SPI line" except they point towards an object you have "hooked". (For example, if you want to re-join with a wingman, you can hook your wingman through the TAD and this will then let you get a continual position update on the HUD to facilitate the rejoin.

Nah, that one I know. I am talking about dots - literaly - that are located at the ends of TVV "wings" one for each wing, and they're not moving, nor indicating any direction other than TVV.

It looks like: * ---O--- *

Maybe you mean the SA (situational awareness) cue for the TGP? It shows the TGP's line of sight relative to your aircraft.

I don't now how up-to-date my manual is, but in mine it's on page 337, figure 248.

EDIT: Just found out that the TVV is the FPM, I thought it had something to do with the "TV" mode of the TGP.

What I'm seeing is arrows, not dots - they mean the TVV is outside the HUD.

Ok, I'll try to catch them today on screenshot.

EDIT:

Well, it seems that these dots aren't dots but pointers and looks like:

<---O---< or opposite.

At begining it was looks like they're pointing to the side of airplane's slip (at pretty high AOA), but then I've noticed that it appears as well in turns of smaller AOA and are pointing to the direction of sidewind. Now I am confused. :-)

A, and here's the screenshot:

I believe they mean that the TVV is actually supposed to be off the hud in the direction the arrows are pointing. (meaning you either have a very high AOA or the wind is blowing hard enough that the TVV would be off of the hud.

Yeah, I believe that indicates the actual TVV is outside of the range able to be displayed on the HUD, in the direction the arrow is pointing. Sometimes you see it while landing in a lot of crosswind.

That's the one I meant, yes. TVV is outside of the hud, in the direction indicated by the arrows.
