Hi everybody!

Just started learning (again, after a looong break) how to handle a10 in dcs a-10c and was trying to play through a few tutorial missions (only tried a few).. most of the ones that start from the ground are alright, but the ones that start in the air are not working as they should I think:

I start up the mission (hands off the controls) and after it starts up, I hear the instructor voice saying that its all good and the plane is in autopilot, when it is actually spinning uncontrollably and plummeting towards the ground... which is not.. ideal

And another issue with the basic flight and turns tutorial - when asked to do a smooth 360 turn - the tutorial does no progress any further - I am neither being informed that I have not satisfied that requirements of that task, nor that I have completed it successfully - the tutorial just hands there - surely it can't be hard to put in like a 60 second wait delay, after which the user would get told to try again or something...

Just sayin - it's quite frustrating..

Otherwise, great sim!

If the splash screen does not say 1.1.0.9, it's not the latest version. ;)

(There's been several new versions released since March.)

For previous versions, you can find exact version either through checking the file info on the binary folder through windows, or through opening Mission Editor, selecting Misc, and then Credits.

You can find patch directory here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/patches/

And full install download here:

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en

If you are several versions "behind", which it sounds like you are, it might be more efficient for you to just reinstall with the full installer. (And there's less risk of something random breaking then, as well.)

About navigation test mission:

I had the same issue and, after having looked into it with the Mission Editor, I could see that a coarse, speed, altitude test zone was too small for me ... at that time.

If you are not inside this zone when your heading is correct you will not trigger the next mission step... and if you expect to get back into the test zone, you will be off coarse and get busted

Conclusion, if you have this same issue, you may try a sharper turn or just make the test zone bigger and everything will be just fine.

Oh, and thanks for that ^^ ivanwfr! I'll try checking that out if I still can't pass the tute - although makes me wonder, why would the dev. team not have done that? :(

Those missions are extremely complex to make, and were also the first time the system was implemented. Teething issues are expected. ;)

There's also of course the "problem" of most developers and testers being relatively accomplished sim-pilots, several also being real pilots. It can then become sort of difficult to come up with all ways of "doing it wrong" to test them since it was so long ago we actually needed tutorials ourselves. It's just hard to test everything, and the only perfect product is the product that never gets released. :)

That is true... (I'm a junior dev myself) - there'll always be issues..

I guess I'll just have to learn how to fly :P

Yeah, after a few weeks (months), of training, I can see that taking care of more than dozens of parameters at the same time like heading, altitude, speed, ... and the corrections to apply to each when they need adjustment.

In fact, these difficulties seem to turn into some kind of satisfaction for the exact same reason. You know you've accomplished something with your training. That it was a good investment, even better than good as if you had skipped training any of those vital skills, you will have to live with an uncomfortable feeling of clumsiness until you consider going back to school ;)

Check this one that helped me a lot as I created it for the exact same reason. I wanted to be allowed to fail en retry as many times as I wanted: Repeatable maneuvers

What controls are you using? If using stick/hotas, make sure any sliders/dials/whatever are centered prior to AP release. This exact thing happened to me, but I found my Rudders were still turned (from a previously aborted taxiing mission).

I had exactly this tonight. I fixed it by unticking the "Syncronize HOTAS controls" blah blah blah option.

I think my Warthog throttle had some settings missmatched.

Other things that has caused my plane to randomly get inputs was that the default settings had bound an x and y axis to my pedals. So if I pushed the pedals either way and accidently put some brake in I would be inputting roll or pitch commands as well.

I also experienced that "x and y axis tied to pedals" thing. I was a bit confused. :)

After installing TM HOTAS Warthog and Saitek Combat Pedals:

- unbound the pitch and roll from pedals

- inverted the brake axis of pedal toe brakes

- unbound the View commands from stick Trim button, and mapped trim instead
