pewbeef Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Does anyone know if it is possible to create some kind of waypoint or mark point by using only the TAD cursor? Today I flew past a bridge crossing a river at low altitude when I spotted a column of trucks. I could recognize the bridge crossing on the TAD, but didn't know how to make any type of reference point with the cursor. Anyone got an advice on how to mark those visual tallys? :helpsmilie:
KaspeR32 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Lot of tutorials on Mark points. But basically make sure your TAD is SOI, then TMS Right Short will create a markpoint at the location of your cursor. SUBS17 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Is it possible to have the bullseye read the cursor position like in the F-16? [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
SmokeyTheLung Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Is it possible to have the bullseye read the cursor position like in the F-16? Yes (if I understand you correctly). First you must actively hook the bullseye, then toggle the "hook mode" (OSB 18ish) to read HOOK-CURS. Now you can move your cursor around and derive bullseye calls System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
Eddie Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Is it possible to have the bullseye read the cursor position like in the F-16? If by 'like in the F-16' you mean like in Falcon 4, then no it isn't. But then the F-16 doesn't work that way either. ;) You can get the function you're after by hooking the bullseye and switching to HOOK-CURS mode on the TAD. Or to create a waypoint from a bullseye reference you can use the CDUs offset function.
pewbeef Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 KaspeR32, does that work even if there is nothing to hook on to in the vicinity of where I want to place the mark point? I don't need to hook anything or so? I wonder why there is no way to create waypoints in the similar fashion? It would certainly make it easier to create flightplans inflight!

Designate it using TMS foraard long, should have a stick coming out of it on the HUD, slew all sensors to HUD with CHFL or long press V. Now all you gotta do is to slew the TGP to point mode on them columns, press Lctrl and Right arrow, and you got the markpoint. Open FPM on the CDU / current plan denoted with plus plus/ scroll down with page rocker till reach next, then press A and Lsk left (one next to next) search my threads for Jtac guide to get a feel. I'm away from my pc for a week more dt travelling. I'll post a video to help you when I come back and give yo the link. Sorry its my clunky mobile... pewbeef Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Thank you for all the answers guys, got a few good tips to try! Thats just another thing that is great with this sim, there is no right or wrong! Everyone develops different styles of performing their missions and you can learn alot from others!
GregP Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) While there are numerous ways to do this, Hender mentioned the simplest and most accurate method here: Usually to create a waypoint you copy an existing waypoint onto a new one. The only exception is to copy the TAD object under the cursor. From p.312 of the 1.1.0.9 manual: "TAD Copy, system action OSB 17. This function is only displayed if a symbol has first been hooked. If a symbol is hooked and OSB 17 is pressed, the hooked symbol will be created as a new mission waypoint in the CDU." Although I have to admit, I'm not completely clear on how 'hooking' a TAD object (TMS Fwd short) is different from setting it as SPI (TMS Fwd long) -- it seems like the same thing. Perhaps the difference is that 'hooking' it cues the EGI to allow you to create a new waypoint based on that point, whereas just making it SPI does not. Edited September 2, 2011 by GregP
nomdeplume Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 It's the same as the difference between locking a target with the TGP, and making the TGP the SPI. If you release a guided bomb it won't hit the target your TGP is tracking, it'll hit your SPI. If you follow steering cues to your SPI, you won't find yourself at the target location, etc. If you hook an object on the TAD, then you'll get some cues on your HUD to help you find it, and the ability to create a waypoint from it, but your SPI will remain whatever it was previously (TGP, STPT, or whatever). If you make the TAD your SPI generator, then whatever you have hooked will be your SPI. Also, you can't make the TAD your SPI without hooking something, since having an object hooked is the only way for it to generate a position. 1
