Your server started in Internet mode (server's PC connected to internet via router). All clients in wide internet must set also 'Internet' mode in order to see this server.

But another client in the same local network, behind the same router should set LAN-mode and will see your server. So, your server will host all clients - in wide internet and in local network simultaneously. It's tested and work.

Ah, I misunderstood this. Yes, that's the way I do this all the time.

But normally (in 1.1.1.1 and lower) I can see my server in the list when I set the client to "Internet". In 1.1.2.1 I can't see it and I think other people can't see my server neither. That's the problem.

But I will test this upnp setting.

Currently, clients do not show servers, which do not respond to UDP requests.

So this might explain why i sometimes see particular servers up for 24 hours+ and others disappear, all down to the UDP settings?

And what can you/I/we do?

So to be clear you send a UDP packet on port 10308 ?

then server sends a reponse packet and then server is in master list

On start, the server publishes it's external IP and port on the master.

Client gets an aggregated list of all servers with their IP:port from the master and sends a UDP packet to each server. After getting a reply, client shows the server to the user.

Allright then, why does a server get dropped from the list after a period of time ?

Hi,

Not sure if this will help you guys or not but here go’s.

Our a10 server worked straight away “Sweet”

When we installed DCS world it wouldn’t show in the server list so I asked our server guru KEV to have a look and see if he could make our server show in the list.

He worked his magic and now our server shows in the list, so I asked him if he could tell us what it was that he did.

This is what he had to say…………..

We're running Windows Server 2008 R2,

but it is similar to Windows 7 in many ways.

Without any information on what they are running I can only give the following tips:

* Make sure you're on a public IP address, if you're behind NAT you will have to forward ports, if you don't know what those mean start Googleing

* Try to avoid installing and running programs from within "Program Files", virtual stores like to bugger things up, I suggest an install in C:\Games\ or another drive completely

* In the firewall settings, [ Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Firewall ]

click Advanced Settings, Inbound Rules, remove any rules that are not correct.

on the right click New Rule, select Program, next, browse for the DCS executable, next, allow the connection, next, tick all the network boxes, next, Name it and you're done.

* Try hosting on a different port than the default

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for trying to help. The people suffering these issues are aware of all/most of what you have posted. Many of us are network administrators, most of us have been running servers for ED/DCS games for years. We know how to properly install the sims, check firewalls and forward ports etc.

The ED/DCS sims all use the same ports. In my case FC2 and Black Shark 2 use the same ports and both work fine for me in the server list while at last check (some time ago)A10-C does not, it appears and then is dropped after some time. I have not tested DCS world yet to see if I have the same issues hosting with it that I did for A10-C. I hope not.

Hm.. maybe this is my problem.

Normally Windows shows a popup you have to confirm once a programm wants to communicate. If you confirm it, you will get a entry into the firewall exception list.

I never got that popup so I don't have a entry in the firewall for the new executabel.

BUT I have a firewall exception for the port itselfe. I have done that manually.

Thank you for the help offered, BigBlack. I doubt if the solution is in the points you mentioned above, as the server is fine for some time and visible for everyone. But after a while it just gets dropped from the masterserverlist, while the server is still up and running and can be accessed directly by using the IP-address.

Guys, when your server gets dropped but is still running, send me a PM with an ip:port of it. I'll check if it's the problem with the master itself (though, it should not be).

Mmm, you may be on to something here. I found our server still running just now, but it wasn't in the master-server-list anymore. The server is at Tyger's place but I can access it through TeamViewer.

-used TeamViewer to check if DCS World was still running on the server : DCS World was still running

-tried to 'ping' the server : could not ping the server

-accessed server through TeamViewer and restarted the DCS World server

-server is back in the master server list

-server can be pinged

Okay, this is making me think it has something to do with the network/router on the server-side. I'll do some checking.

More info :

DCS World is not installed in the "Program"-folder. OS is Win7-64bit and the Windows firewall is disabled. I don't have access to the Virgin modem/router unfortunatly.

Hi Coff,

check pm please.

Server is no longer in list. i can ping the server. I can access the server through TeamViewer. I get "Connection interupted" when I try to connect via IP in DCS World.

By the way : the server password for today is 'hippo'

And thank you for looking into this problem.

c0ff: Do you have a solution potentially?

Sure :)

I need a dcs.log from bengo first.

EDIT: Btw, you can always get a dcs.log from a running process. Just goto Logs/ dir and copy/paste the dcs.log file (of zero size) using Windows Explorer. It will create a valid copy of the log.

Pretty sure it’s a client side problem, Our server [OCB] sits happily in the master server list without disappearing.

When your servers disappear is it a random length of time? or is it always half an hour or hour thing?

Were using port 20308

Hey BB, thanks for your input in this matter. What exactly do you mean by 'client side' ? Is that the actual server or is it the clients connecting to the server ?

I'm having a hard time getting my head around the fact that when one fires up a server it is running okay and is present in the master server list. After a while, without anything changing on the server, it just drops out of the serverlist.

Let's hope Coff can find the cause.

Yeah it's like the client server stops sending the info to the master server.

Let's hope Coff can find the cause.B

Fingers crossed.
