this is why i dislike the Sony and Steam models. They cannot protect the data they are trusted with.... granted any corner store 7-11 could be the target of credit card theft as well but I firmly believe that when extraordinary volumes of credit cards are being held in trust by a corporation, extraordinary responsibility is an expectation.

 

If a 7-11 is caught by a interac scam, at best a hundred Credit cards are compromised.... with groups like sony and steam it is tantamount to a whole cities and states being compromised.

 

this is troubling news once again...

No, it is more like the difference between a (un)secure E-Commerce platform (...no matter if it is Sony, Steam, EA or perhaps next time iTunes) and a bank.

 

At least the bank is forced to comply with certain security regulations that cost lots of money, whereas the stores focus more on the commerce part.

 

Funny they didn't change all the Account's passwords, leaving millions of Steam customers with the problem how to prove that they are the legal owners of their games and not the hackers :D

 

Another incident showing us why data is a thing to really care about...
