sotosev Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I am thinking to upgrade my pc. The reason is better frame rates in A-10 Warthog! Do you think that I make right choice or I need to reconsider some of the parts? Also I will overclock to 4 or 5 Ghz! Or maybe I wait for next gen processors! Will i be happy for at least next two years? EtherealN Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Since you are re-using 550 I suspect you might be looking at saving a wee bit of money on it? If so, I'd suggest going for the i5-2500K. You lose HT and 2MB of L3, but game performance will be pretty much identical in both DCS and mainstream games. Aside from that, looking pretty good, though I'm not too impressed with the H60's. A good tower cooler or H70/H100 would be better if you can make them fit in the case - H70 is quite loud though. Bolt-1 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Money is always a case to me, so thanks for the info! Any suggestion to other model for a good cpu cooler? There's nothing wrong with the stock cooler that comes with the 2600K. Why not use that, save up some money, then get what you really want. I can give you 100 suggestion's. But it really is dependent upon how much your willing to part with. As almost any aftermarket cooler is better than stock, once a given price point is reached. agrasyuk Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Any suggestion to other model for a good cpu cooler? quite a surprise but my mildly clocked 2500K had reasonable temps even on stock cooler (although in antec1200 case - uber airflow). i'm not convinced by those closed loop water systems, for the price i would expect better cooling and less noise. and frankly for the price any other cooler will have hard time beating the "monster" 212+ Anton. EtherealN Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Can I overclock to 4.5Ghz by stock cooler? I wouldn't do that myself, and I would generally suggest against the stock cooler actually (even when not overclocking there's really cheap and well-performing alternatives). It's not bad per se, but it is relatively easy to end up with a botched install of it and then you end up having to dismount it, carefully replace silver paste (separate purchase) and try again. I'd probably suggest something from Noctua or Zalman. Both have some pretty good ones, but Noctua are a notch higher on the performance mark. Agrasyuk, to me the "big deal" with the pre-sealed "water" coolers (all liquid-cooling is closed-loop, you do NOT want to cool your computer from the water-main... :P ) is that you can get good cooling performance without having a MASSIVE radiator block in the middle of your mobo. In the case of the H100, for example, you mount the radator at the top exhaust (if your case supports a 2x1 12cm radiator/fan assembly) and still have extremely easy access to everything on the mobo. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Rhinox Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Can I overclock to 4.5Ghz by stock cooler Maybe. It also depends on overall airflow in your case. But I'd recommend to invest at least in better-than-stock air-cooler if you want to touch 4.5GHz (i.e. yasya/mugen for ~30-40 bucks, I'm running i5-2500k@4.6GHz with it).

I have one of each running at home and the Noctua is not only a bit better but it is significantly quieter than the Zalman. EtherealN Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I don't quite understand the "heavy" point? My old Zalman was ~700 grammes, and it was not as efficient as the H70 - but in the case of the Zalman the weight was applied to the motherboard directly, while the radiator block is secured to the steel chassis. Not that I move the machine very often, but meh. And yes, this is a matter of personal preferences. Thing is of course as well that the "noise" here is really only a question of which fans you use (as always). You can use other fans if you like. The issue with the H70 is just that Corsair decided to include crap ones as far as noice levels go (in my case this is fairly irrelevant since I'm not bothered by noice - I've slept next to hydraulic machines :P ). Basically there is no straight answer to what is better. All depends on the user's preferences.
