I finally landed this thing in the training mission. I guess I had a problem advancing time which was making the autopilot come on and off but sometimes during landing training, it never re-engages like it is suppose to. Is this a bug?

Also, I landed and taxi off the runway? But I am not sure where to go, I made a left and saw like more a-10's. I stop the plane and the instructor never goes on with the shutdown procedure??

Hello, I'm still very new to all of this, but I'm on the same training missions at the moment.

I finally landed this thing in the training mission. I guess I had a problem advancing time which was making the autopilot come on and off but sometimes during landing training, it never re-engages like it is suppose to. Is this a bug?

I noticed this too. I've kept the plane level and sometimes it won't engage. I reduce throttle and sometimes it re-engages.

Also, I landed and taxi off the runway? But I am not sure where to go, I made a left and saw like more a-10's. I stop the plane and the instructor never goes on with the shutdown procedure??

Was the ground chief waiting for you when you taxied? I guess that's where you're supposed to be. I accidently ran him over yesterday :D I noticed if you come in too fast, the guy will stop talking. You need to fly slower.

I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions myself. In the landing training exercise, I'm told by ATC what direction to go to, then the instructor says dial in heading 130 for Batumi, but he doesn't explain why. I noticed the runway is 13, do I times any runway number by 10?

Also how do I know which airport I'm at? I did a ramp start and couldn't tell where I was. I wanted to get ATC permission to start my plane, but had to start the plane to navigate to the CDU. How do I know which airport, frequency etc I need.

Runway 13 is actually heading of 130 degrees. So runway 21 would be 210 degrees. Once you turn on your radios and power electronics to the a-10 i think you should be able to contact ATC. They will tell you to taxi to the runway and will also include the name of the airport in that direction.

My autopilot is weird, if you advance time in the beginning of the tutorial, it screws up the training mission. Don't advance time until instructor tells you to do so.

I still could not get any direction as to where to park. I saw three military guys and a humvee, I guess that is where you have to go. But like you said if you are coming in too fast, you won't trigger the rest of the instructions even if you land.

Last set of info I got was, Taxi off the runway to the left. After that, nothing else and I was roaming around with my plane for a good 10 minutes until I decided to park by other A-10's and then realized I couldn't reverse ha.

So I'm not sure if it is a bug or what?

To check your departing airport, press F10, then click on the > ME < button. That will center on your plane. Then just scroll in till you see your airport.

The runways are indeed Runway number x10 = direction, approximately. So Runway 13 points around 130 while runway 9 would point 90, due East.

The runway is 125 degrees I believe which is rounded to Runway 13. It's a great easy system to figure out which way to go to takeoff and land!

Thanks for help guys, rep added.

selayan, it's happened to me a few times. I guess when he's not happy with my landing, he gets upset and stops talking to me :) Probably all those tyres I've shredded..

hmm I was wondering why my crew chief is running towards me with a gun. Good thing I ran him over.

Yeh I still get the autopilot not engaging after the turn, so annoying. And I guess the instructor should tell you to make the left to the runway while you are descending to 2500ft because by that time you have passed the runway and it will be hard to line up because you will need to make a left go forward a bit then a right. So it doesn't line up all the way. I still have not passed this mission yet.

When coming off the runway, there is a few A10s parked off to the left, and one off to the right (with a fuel truck next to it). I parked on the runway side of the single A10, and just sat for a minute on the brakes. Then I received shut down instructions.

Whether or not this is right, I have no idea. :)

The training system does have any magic autopilot option, so it has to use the A-10's actual autopilot system, which is limited in its engagement envelope. If the aircraft is being manuevered or is generally out of a level flight attitude, the AP will not engage (or will disengage while engaged). In any case, you are free to turn the AP on and off whenever you need to during the training missions.

If the instructor stops talking to you and you never hear a "lesson completed" message, it means something has been missed. Try to pay careful attention to the instructions and follow them as closely as possible. If you still have trouble, post a track of your flight, so we can take a look at it. To record a track, you can run the training mission from the Mission Editor. An option to save the track will be availble in the Debriefing screen after you exit the mission.

In the Landing training missions, you should be okay to stop in the ramp area around the parked A-10s, but the intention is for you to taxi to the "crew cheif" (soldier).

Thanks for the information guys. I've been reading up on the HSI in the flight book and I noticed that when you recieve a heading you are suppose to turn to that heading for example 232, turn until HSO is right before the '24' mark?

And I noticed you must keep altitude and same speed as you make that turn, you can be off by a little for the auto pilot to re engage. I thought I should install flight simulator x to train on basics first before playing this?

I may also invest in the saitek x52 stick, or the pro model. Now I'm using logitech extreme pro 3d that I just bought. I will post a track when I finally land it correct. I mean I could record one soon later today but chances are I will miss the runway or wreck.

Hi Selayan. Yes, you are correct, when ATC gives you a heading instruction it is expected that you will turn to that heading immediately. If you find yourself lost or obviously off course you can always ask ATC for another heading using the "I'm lost" radio option (if I remember correctly).

Once you touch down you will recieve instructions to take a taxi-way and park. Instructor "Samuel L. Jackson" will tell you there is a crew chief moving to your parking space now. Try to scan the parking area and you should see a soldier running out to the middle of the tarmac (he is your "crew chief"... even though he is an infantryman). Basically your designated parking space is right in front of the Batumi terminal. You should park facing the direction that you landed with the crew chief slightly to the left of your plane's nose. There is another infantryman standing next to a vehicle, don't mistake him for your crew chief. Your crew chief will be out in the middle all by himself.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I have a used X52 Pro if you're interested. Just let me know.

Runway numbers are the first 2 digits of the runway heading. Runway 13 is a heading of 130 (or very close). The opposite end of runway 13 would be runway 31, or heading 310. 130 + 180 degrees = 310

This is also useful for when you need to abort approach and "go around". Slow turn to the heading opposite your approach to gain distance from the runway at an optimal heading to turn back onto approach when you're ready. (For training of course. Realistically you should contact ATC for a heading to re-enter your pattern, but if you're just practicing your approach alignment and touchdown process then the 180 concept works well.)

I was looking at the x52 pro on amazon and there are some used ones on there. Is it really a lot easier to use? I don't have track IR and not getting that but the buttom combos on my logitech extreme 3d pro are annoying and mistake them for other things sometimes. How much would you sell it for?

Personally I was never happy with the movement of the stick itself. It's sticky for some reason. I even tried greasing the pressure cone but it made no difference. The movement of the Logitech Extreme is far better, but like you said lacks in button (HOTAS) availability.

The throttle movement is nice, the rudder twist is good, but the stick movement could be better. All in all is a great upgrade from what you're using. The slider, rotary, MFD, button, HAT, and mode options simply can't be beat. If you want mine I will sell it for whatever this bid closes for:

... plus shipping.

Cool as long as its not busted it should do. Is there any profile that is reccomended if i do buy this? I have been looking for one that is simple to get used to but has everything too. The stick movement on the Logitech is stiff too. After use I noticed you either get used to it or it just gets loose. But the motion itself requires you to move it slowly or else it snaps back like a rubberband. I put that on my watchlist :)
