cichlidfan Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 What does temporary mean here? What/when is the final answer/change going to be and why was it not implimented now? SmokeyTheLung Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I'm assuming that the current HOF setting for the 97s are unrealistic. If you think about the system, it would seem that either the pilot manuallys enters target elevation/or the IFFCC does it for you. Right now, the 97 are not very flexible in their operation. I have no real work knowledge of the actual weapon system, but I've got a gut feeling that IRL they work differently. It's promising to hear that it's still a WIP. SmokeyTheLung Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Check out some of the real world fotage of 97s in operation. You can clearly see that they are capable of preforimg in a way that's not really possible in the sim right now (I'm taking about HOF here). I'll find some links to the fotage in question when I get off work. System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

The HOF is set when the weapon is loaded. It can not be changed in flight in RL. ALDEGA Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 It's programmed in the CBU-97 itself (on the ground), independently of the aircraft? DSMS HOF setting is for IFFCC purposes?
SmokeyTheLung Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Indeed, that's the very general statement that's been thrown around here. It may or may not be correct as it relates to the 97. What I'm getting at is the relationship between the cannister bursting, and the submunitions firing. But considering my near complete lack of knowledge on the subject, I should probably refrain from speculating. But I will say that the current implementation in the sim seems extremely limited to me. They work great at sea level, but not so much anywhere else System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
MagnumHB Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 It's programmed in the CBU-97 itself (on the ground), independently of the aircraft? DSMS HOF setting is for IFFCC purposes? I believe this is the case. Changing the functionality directly via the DSMS for this and similar settings for other weapons is a compromise for in-sim playability and usability. Indeed, that's the very general statement that's been thrown around here. It may or may not be correct as it relates to the 97. They work great at sea level, but not so much anywhere else The initial canister separation is based on a radar altimeter, and should theoretically be independent of target altitude. Now, if there are bugs with that implementation or how the skeets behave afterwards, I couldn't say for sure one way or the other. The 1.1.1.1 changelog does specifically say that CBU-97s should perform correctly in mountainous terrain, so maybe it's a non-issue now.
159th_Viper Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 They work great at sea level, but not so much anywhere else Not true - See post #135 and #137 of the following thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1340712#post1340712 All is as it should be. SmokeyTheLung Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Have you noticed that you can use a much lower HOF at sea level (which would be nessicarry for hitting moving targets)? This won't work unless your targets are at sea level... I don't doubt what you're saying, and again I'm just speculating, but something seems off to me System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
SmokeyTheLung Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Here's a vid that showcases what I'm getting at http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80ubL2hMPGg As of 1.1.1.0 I can only replicate this kind of effect at sea level. Maybe that's correct behavior, but I doubt it System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

159th_Viper Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Wild guess - will probably be set to default RL setting when confirmed by SME's. At present 87/103's are 1200HOF/2000RPM IRL - Not sure about SIM. While we have the ability to set it on the fly, it's no big deal in the greater scheme of things. Just means that if one forgets to tinker with the 97/105 settings, they'll work right off the bat as opposed to lawndarting as previously. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? ED Team Olgerd Posted December 16, 2011 ED Team Posted December 16, 2011 ...? •Fixed MRS/DRC calculations for CBU-97. •DRC/MRS calculations now account for target elevation - i.e. they should work correctly in mountains. Those are only for DRC (Desired Release Cue - small horizontal tick along PBIL)/MRS (Minimum Range Staple) calculations. Not related to CBU HOF setting. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] К чему стадам дары свободы? Wichid Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I guess the important thing is that with this patch we don't have to reload the CBU inventory in the DSMS. Yay! Combined with the fix of the CBU CTD and my cockpit reflections being back I'm happy as ever!
