You would sorta expect that an F-16 would have a higher ingress speed than the A-10, but for some reason, it turns out that once the Viper (or any jet, for that matter) hits the IP, it slows down to the A-10's speed. All AI do this - when on an A/G mission, they slow down to 450-500 kmph. Like WTF? I guess "Get in, get out quickly" doesn't apply in the LOMAC world.

An ingress speed of 800-950 kmph would be ideal for fast movers, I think. It would reduce their vulnerability to air defenses, increase their missile evasion abilities plus allow them to keep their bomb load (after the first wave of SAMs at least) because of the extra energy.

In BVR combat, AI jets also slow down. Again, this is so stupid - the AI makes a beeline for you from like 150 miles away on full AB, then when it gets to like 30 miles, they kill all that energy and slows down to 700 kmph. What kind of an engagement profile is that? I would imagine it should be more like make a beeline towards threat at 700 kmph to conserve fuel, than when approaching missile range hit the AB to give extra energy to your missiles, then slow down and turn away to F-pole. Right now, the order is all screwed up.

Like, no wonder the AI gets killed so easily. They do like the dumbest things ever - most of the time, they kill so much of their energy that it makes them sitting ducks.

BTW, helicopters don't slow down when they attack - they speed up, straight into enemy AD instead of hovering in stand-off range. Again, this boggles my mind.

You've played too much Lomac when you:

1- log down AI flying speeds and tactics.

LOL :D

Well, it was really by accident. I placed the IP for a flight of Tornados (whom I was escorting) pretty far out, so they can attack their target (an active SA-11 site) from stand-off range with ALARMs. I cleared the target area, wasted all my decoys on enemy AAMs and SAMs, and was egressing winchester after a good 10 minutes on station when I passed by the Tornados inching along (whom shoulda been dealing with the SAMs when I was dealing with the CAPs).

Long story short, I locked them up on radar and that's how I got their speed. I couldn't believe anyone mud moverwould go so slow when on Weasel duty.

Yep thats very sad but unfortinatly true story about how dumb Lomac AI is. Its even more sad because the developers are behaving completely ignorant to such painstaking and serious problems and invest all the time in new project but AI is weak and campaigns are almost unplayable. There is no neeed for dynamic campaign unti AI is wastly improved.

They said that with the patch (I think) that the AI is going to be smarter.

I don't think it was mentioned exactly. Missile AI will indeed be smarter, but not aircraft AI.

Yeah, I'm not really satisfied with how little development ED has put into LOMAC's AI in comparison to other things like graphics. It has all the eye-candy I need, but they keep adding new effects to it while the AI is still sub-standard.

Guess they play on-line a lot when AI is not really an issue.

100% agree with you

AI improvement for computer-controlled aircraft should definitely be given TOP priority, even before adding new models and new AFMs. Present situation doesn't allow for any serious single player missions, in particular A/G missions. Attack runs are ludicrous. Same goes for SEAD missions.

If they're going to offer Lomac to the military for FAC training, I seriously doubt any Army/Air Force would just consider buying it, since no attack run in RL is even similar to those in Lomac. If SimHQ/Leadpursuit reviews are correct, F4:AF should be light years ahead of Lomac in this field.

If ED is operating a training module, they are going to have to MATCH the doctrine and procedures of the paying customers for attacks and defence. Though it says that the Military Customers can program in their situations, the AI has to be understood and adjusted by ED for the non-customer controlled AI.
