cichlidfan Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 Really cool. However, they only worked over your holiday. Christmas in Russia is on January 7th. ;) Point taken. Even if it was four normal working days, it is still a rather rare achievement in this business. EtherealN Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 However, they only worked over your holiday. Christmas in Russia is on January 7th. ;) Christmas in russia isn't celebrated the same way it is in the west though. From what I recall they actually care about the religious implications the holiday is supposed to have and go at the shopping spree for New Years isntead. ;) But yeah, I love it when people assume other cultures are always the same. You don't have to go very far at all to turn things on their head - when does the week start? Monday or Sunday? When is the Sabbath? Saturday or Sunday? (And I didn't even leave the realm of protestants there! Things get even more fun when introducing different denominations of catholicism, orthodoxy etcetera, and of course non-abrahamic culture as well.) Lots of fun complications to be had there, one should never ever assume that what you do goes for another country even within the same general area - we open gifts on the 24th, something a lot of other western, protestant, cultures think is very very weird. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
213 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 there's absolutely nothing wrong with making assumptions about other cultures, in many cases, it's really the only way you can learn the differences. it's part of the process of testing what's real and what's false. you make an assumption/theory and test that against what other people say. in this case, a representative of russia with knowledge about the subject has shed light on the matter and the op will have benefited from the learning experience.
sungsam Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) Imagine how boring the world could be, if all we had the same habits, color, wear the same cloths, same calture etc.... Informentionally for whom cares to know, in the Orthodox Christian world, Christmas is a happy unniversary and a wonderful celebration mostly for children. The birth of Christ is considered a wonderful event but it is mostly a historical fact and a prophecy fulfillment if you like. Actually Madonna has most important place during Christmas than infant Christ. Orthodox top important unniversary is Easter. Following with sadness His torture week, (The Great Week as we use to call it) up to the Crusifiction, Christ resurects and Wins death. It is a proof and a promise of life after death, It is also a proof of GOD existance and Christ's pritches. Christ salvates humanity by taking the panishment of our sins to the cross. The light of Hope is lit again. That’s the theory ! Merry Chrismas and a happy new year to all ! + 7 Days for our old calendar Russian fellows there :) Edited December 29, 2011 by sungsam DCS F16C 52+ w JHMCS ! DCS AH64D Longbow !
Feuerfalke Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) Imagine how boring the world could be, if all we had the same habits, color, wear the same cloths, same calture etc.... So true. But sadly it is also the cause for so much misunderstanding and pain in the world. However, that is mostly not due to the religion itself, but because of people misusing it. Actually Madonna has most important place during Christmas than infant Christ. Interesting. I always though that the term "Madonna" only exists for artistic expression of Maria WITH the infant Christ. Smokin Hole Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 ROF realised they had a problem with their program They worked hard to release a patch to fix these errors and had it done in a few days , they even worked on it over holidays There you go , marvel at how a really good software team does stuff :) Well let's state exactly what happened. Minutes after 1.023 was released players flying online noticed flying trees, floating hangars and flashing towns. A cynic might say that a "really good software team" would have allowed such a buggy release in the first place. I am no cynic and I really do think 777 have been putting out an ever improving and impressive product. But if the implication is that ED might have something positive to learn from this then I believe the implication to be wrong. They, ED and 777, are both fortunate in their teams. 1
