Fakum Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Sorry,, been searching, cant really find the right place to put this, so if it gets moved, I understand. I was initially looking for a way to avoid having to use the mouse in the cockpit to punch the letters and numbers in the CDU, I have seen posts here and there showing the use of Ipads and touchscreens along with Helios etc. It looks appealing, but out of price range. I cant seem to find any other methods used like Android tablets etc to do what the Ipad does,, or at the very least, a decent sized touch screen at an affordable price,,, something bigger than 10" or so? I have a budget of about $200,, but if the use of a less expensive tablet can do the trick as well,, I would hold off to save enough to purchase that,,, any thoughts? Nu-NRG Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I paid 230 EUR for the first AOC e2239Fwt and 210eur for the second one. It's a 22" 16:9 touch screen running at 1920x1080. Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
GregP Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) For a long time I had the same desire as you -- a touchscreen CDU that I could use since I was already exporting MFCDs to USB LCDs and using a keypad (X-Keys Professional) for my UFC / NMSP / AHCP. After researching all the options, and trying to figure out how to integrate it all into my cockpit setup, I went with the simplest option: a 22" touchscreen that gives me an easy way to directly interact with ALL of the 3D cockpit's switches. My Viewsonic VX2258WM was about $300, but if you can stretch your budget a bit, you could buy yourself a much more comprehensive and adaptable solution. In the picture here, you can see that I have it mounted below the center view of my main monitors. I've tried a lot of other setups, but this one beats them all in terms of intuitiveness. Also, if I don't want to move my head (via TrackIR) such that the CDU is in view, I can just use a SnapView to place the CDU directly in the middle of the touchscreen and operate it that way. Fakum Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Thanks for the feedback so far,,,, I think those that are interested as well should look at this fine setup,, you have to watch the complete demonstration to appreciate what hes done,,, Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
LG_Barons Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 hey check this out. I got it for my 19in widescreen, works perfectly! http://www.amazon.com/TP-185-LCD-Touchscreen-Overlay-18-5/dp/B0030G6YDS setup with helios is a bit tricky but manageable. LG
LG_Barons Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 here is my setup. On top 27" viewsonic with 1920*1080. below the "main screen" 19" dell with 1366*768 with the touchscreen overlay. Helios working on this (Thanks LOZ and Gadroc). Left and right two 7" USB liliput and left an old eeepc with android and DCS manager running for checklist stuff and manuals. It took me a while to edit the monitor config and export lua's, however everything is working. LG
Fakum Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Yeah,,, I did see that,, I read a majority of the reviews, and it was not that favorable, aspecially at 1/2 the price of an actual touch screen monitor. How long have you been using it? Just wondering what your feedback is considering your using it for the same application I intent to? Thanks Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
PeterP Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) try to get the cheapest and also greatest touch-screen you can get and make something like this ( this is the very first movie I have seen about DCS some years ago - and I was sold...) - and you will not worry about Helios at all...:) http://www.veoh.com/watch/v1627326198keXc3X?h1=Black+Shark+Techdemo-+Head+Tracking+and+Touchscreen Edited December 30, 2011 by PeterP

Thanks well, I am using it now for 3 weeks or so, it took me quite some time to figure out my monitor lua. However for the main usage as using the mfd's it is working excellent. the minor drawbacks are a little bit fuddling with the change of frequencies. With Capt LOZ helios profiles adjusted to my resolution it work very nice. I use it mainly only for A10, because due to the setup up the overlay has to be the MAIN screen in the windows setup and for the DCS setup it has to be the top left screen. so, it is sometimes confusing using it under the normal windows environment when you are using the normal mouse, because it is physically located below the big screen. i hope you understand what I mean. attached the setups If you have questions how to setup up the lua's... shoot.
