yallu Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 So I've been giving lessons on how to get started with A-10C. Just the basic stuff: cold & dark start, take-off, navigation, ILS landing, radios, basic TGP/weapons etc. Nothing fancy yet (cause I have to learn it myself first). Yesterday I was having a training flight with a couple of new trainees. All went reasonably well (despite one of the trainees opening and loosing his canopy at almost 10000 ft) - until we were making a loose formation landing... I landed first, while i was rolling I thought I'd delay my braking a little to allow more space for the trainees behind me. I then pushed L-CTRL (my TS3 push-to-talk) to remind trainees of proper landing procedures. Soon I noticed I'd better start braking myself as well... So I pressed W. Big mistake . At least if you're still holding L-CTRL down... Afterwards I checked from the key maps: L-CTRL+W is Jettison Weapons. Needless to say, the trainees behind me didn't appreciate the show. One of the bombs I was still carrying exploded behind me leaving a nice crater on the runway crashing a trainee... :megalol: But then again, I guess they asked for it. That's what you get when you score more than your instructor... :P

luckyhendrix Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 That must have been a fun ride. But your thread title reminded me of the gun training mission , when ,at the end, the instructor says the line form pulp fiction, man, I laughed my ass off that day
Megagoth1702 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 This is actually a bug. When you emergency-jettison your stuff they are not armed and should just land on the ground. And that's what happens for you. But for clients around you it looks like the weapons explode. ESzczesniak Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Remember in formation landings that it is good practice for trailing aircraft to touchdown first. This prevents the lead aircraft from decelerating from the ground friction while the trail remains airborne at steady speed possibly leading to a collision. In fact, in civilian realms (not sure about military) practice is for the trail aircraft to immediately go- around if the lead does touchdown first in order to deconflict.
