Gun Jam Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Hello Im building a new computer and want win 7 64bit. I just dont know if I want it in home, pro, or ultimate flavor. I plan to get the OEM builder pack on newegg. My initial reaction was to get 7 pro and its only a 30 dollar difference between home. 99 vs 130 In the compare list it says that Home doesnt have the "run in xp mode" which I use in vista some times although im not sure its the same thing. I have heard that all version on windows 7 be it home or ultimate can do the same thing...for a 30 dollar difference is it worth going with pro over home? They all use the same Direct x 11 right...and they would all run games about the same right? Thanks
EtherealN Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 If you expect to use the XP thing, then yeah, might be worth it. OTherwise I don't really feel that it's worth it. They should indeed run games pretty much the same, all of them. I'm always cautious about using versions of operating systems that have additional features I won't use - just to stay careful of bloat. (Both in the case of Windows licenses where it obviously also costs extra for no use, but also in free OSes like various Linux flavors.) I'm not sure whether there would actually be any performance impact from the "bloated" versions of 7, probably not (and if there is, probably not big enough for a human to notice), but why pay for things you won't use? :) An additional reason to get the Pro is, if I remember it all correctly, to keep the option of future RAM upgrades up to over 16GB. I'd have to re-check the limits on Home though to be sure of that, was a while since I looked at those tables. galagamo Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 (edited) Edit}^^^Yea what he said They all use the same Direct x 11 right...and they would all run games about the same right? Yes that is correct. I'm using Home premium, its been a great OS, but I cannot compare it with other versions as I have not used them. There may be a difference in ram capacity between them, though not a big deal IMHO Edited January 13, 2012 by galagamo [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] OS:WIN7 HP X64|MOBO:ASRock Z68|CPU:I52500k@4Ghz|RAM:12Gb 3x4Gb GSkill Ripjaws 9-9-9-24 @1600Mhz|GPU:ASUS GTX580|HDD:2x128Gb Crucial sataIII SSD raid0|PSU:Antek 1000watt|Case:Antek 1200|Peripherals: TMWH|Saitek ProFlight rudder pedals|TrackIr4

But I did get a great deal on mine :D i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Gun Jam Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Home pro? Is that an inside joke or is there really such a thing? Home premium? Again thanks for your input guys!
PoleCat Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 At a minimum I would say Windows 7 Pro x64 if you are an enthusiast. Otherwise take your pick of the x64 versions keeping in mind the memory limits. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Devrim Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 That's my opinion; My machine is 64bit. So, I didn't even think about Win7 Starter. I've got Win7 Home Premium. That's it. If you really interest with specifications of them, you'll see that Ultimate, Enterprise and Professional versions have a lot of features that you'll never use! (If you're not a businessman.) See this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions and decide yourself. Devrim Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Why? If you add explanations, it's better for me or other frineds. I mean why not Home Premium and why Pro? Thanks. I know, I ask so many questions including 'why' nowadays. : ) Intel i7-14700@5.6GHz | MSI RTX4080 SuperSuprimX | Corsair V. 64GB@6400MHz. | Samsung 1TB 990 PRO SSD (Win10Homex64) Samsung G5 32" + Samsung 18" + 2x8"TFT Displays | TM Warthog Stick w/AVA Base | VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle | TM MFD Cougars | Logitech G13, G230, G510, PZ55 & Farming Sim Panel | TIR5 & M.Quest3 VR >>MY MODS<< | Discord: Devrim#1068
