i have an opportunity to get preowned, but fully working dell 3007WFP monitor for reasonable amount. 30" size and 2560 x 1600 resolution seems awesome. at the moment i'm running 24" 1920*1200 + exporting MFDs to 23" 1920*1080. i find FPS very reasonable with gtx470/SB 2500K. can owners of such monitor chime in on performance to expect after upgrade. others welcome to speculate as well.

i'm thorn between ideas increase the main monitor size and stay with one, or perhaps start looking for 2 more 24"s and another card (and beefier PSU, sight) with performance hit multimonitor setup entails ...

I don't think there is a performance drain if you have a monitor that uses HDMI, my lcd tv 46" uses hdmi from my nvidia video card, and I don't think it uses any more resources than any video set at around 1152x864... but I never really found a way tpo test it, I guess I would have to setup a regualr lcd computer monitor and test the fps from each..

if size were the case my 46" lcd tv should have brought my 3 ghz win7, with gtx460 video card, which is an older computer to a crawl in fps.. but it runs fine.. so I figure hdmi doesn't hit the performance hard... plus, it's just plug and play...

no need to look for better settings..

I have a dell 30" at work and it's sometimes difficult to play games on it because of the high resolution. If you go for it, make sure you have plenty of space between you and the screen :)

You'll also probably want to increase mouse pointer speed.

I have exactly this monitor. It's great for flight sims (both DCS and BMS) and really increases the immersion. I'm running it on an i7 860 / Radeon HD 5850 at 2560x1600. I was running 1920x1280 on a 24" monitor before with good framerates. I had to slightly drop some settings to get the same FPS, but really not nearly as much as I thought I would.

For gaming the 3007 is superior to the 3008 (and most other 30" monitors) because it doesn't have a scaler / OSD -- it simply displays exactly what it receives from the computer. This means there's less display lag. On the other hand the display is so ridiculously large that for fast-twitch FPS games you might be at a bit of a disadvantage because it takes your eyes longer to move around the screen.

One issue with the 3007 is that there's some backlight bleed in both lower corners. This is only really visible during night missions.

Hope this helps,

I was looking at the same monitor the other day. It looks pretty good. For those ppl using it, can you actually see objects better at that high resolution compared to 24" at 1920x1080?

In my opinion, yes you can see detail better. This still could be subjective since I have never run the sim, or anything else, side by side.

You do have significantly more pixels involved in any portion of the image.

I am using a different Dell, the U2711 @2560x1440, but I believe the ppi for both monitors is very close. Even though the monitor is larger than a 24" the increase in pixel density is much greater than the increase in screen size.

i would be interested in the answer for that as well.

LuiAD, for now i can only say that i do enjoy 16:10 monitors (which the subj is) much better then 16:9 . those mere 120 extra lines (in case of 1920*1200 vs 1920*1080) seem to do a LOT of difference. in games and regular PC usage.

My previous monitor was 22" @ 1680x1050 and I also prefer that ratio but when the price for the Dell U30 was about 50% more, those extra pixels just were not worth it.
