The mission seems deceptively simple. Yet my wingman always gets shot down, and it takes me forever to spot any targets with the targeting pod. However, ol' Wingboy does see the targets right away, which brings me to ask: How can he see them so quickly? If you've got a town with buildings and trees, and your targets may be no larger than infantry, what's the best strategy to see them? I usually use BHOT, but it doesn't really matter the TGP mode. It's like finding needles in a haystack. Sometimes I have to start 10-15nm away at relatively high altitude, engage A/P, then make slow sweeps with the camera, and even then I don't always get a target on my first pass, so I have to yank it around 180 degrees, create some distance, and try again. Very frustrating. Any tips for developing a hawk's eye?

It may helps to play with level and gain when using the IR modes of the TGP.

For example set the gain to something like 6 and level to 2 or 3.

You will finde this setting on the TGP A-G screen on the left side. With the Arrows you can change the value and with the button labled "gain" you can switch to "level" and back to "gain".

The AI has a Hawk eye because it is the AI. The computer knows where the targets are and so does your Wingman. The AI is cheating there.

If you want to make it easier for you you can always use the labels. They make it very easy, however they are a little bit like cheating...

Hope I was able to help you!

Use your wingman to your advantage - when he sees a target, check if his SPI shows on your TAD. If not, tell him to engage ground targets, and when you see his SPI on the TAD (white wedding cake symbol) hook it (TMS up short) and then just slave your sensors to it. Oh, and better recall your superhuman wingman, so he doesnt get shot down. When it comes to CMS, his supernatural powers tend to diminish somehow...

Besides that, first contact the Predator JTAC and fly along the route. It will tell you all the anti-aircraft targets. Ask the wingman to take them out with mavericks.

The wingman is somewhat dumb when attacking ground targets. Either he gets too low to release bombs or he drops all ammo when being attacked. Anyway, anything other than mavericks, that are stand-off weapons, the wingman is very bad at employing. t

After all the AAA threats are eliminated, contact the convoy JTAC. Now you are free to engage the ground targets without having to worry about air defenses located around the targets.

This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly:

Recognizing something important amidst of unimportant mess is a skill just like drawing or kicking a curve ball. You can read about it as much as you want but you get better only through practice. The part that gets better through advice applies only after developing the skill. Search strategies are also important as it enables you to narrow the search area down, prioritize and search it systematically so that you don't scan same area twice and don't spend too much time looking at one area but also not scanning too fast and missing something.

Gain is always good to go. Adding to seeing tgt definition and depth switching from WHOT to BHOT (white hot to Black hot) can help here without grids and simply scanning with the TGP.

Best.
