I just can't get a view of the target or a lock when useing the AGM-65.

I get as far as an active right MFCD as the SOI then slewing the little

bug into the target area but can't get any further. I've been watching the

Maverick videos by Tiger but they haven't helped. Can someone help me?

BTW what is the best Mission to fly and lear the Maverick ?

Thanks

You will never get a clear view of a target through the Mav seeker at standoff range - it's not good enough for that. Identify and mark your targets first via the TGP. You can then slave the Mav to your markpoint (target). Once slaved to target, all you then do is command track (TMS Fwd Short, sometimes repeatedly until a valid track is obtained) and launch.

And the Maverics are a pretty common topic anyway. Just use the forum Search and you'll find all the info. Just a little patience, it will take some time to read thru all the threads and messages.

This is how I do it ..

1 Put distance between you and the targets

2 Choose Mavericks from DSMS OSB14

3 Put left MFCD into TGP mode and right MFCD into MAV mode

4 Put the Steerpoint switch into Markpoint mode, or press FUNC then 8 MARK on the UFD

5 Turn onto target and SLOW DOWN the aircraft

6 Slew the TGP onto a target

7 Put into laser mode

8 TMS up short twice for point mode

9 TMS right short to make it into a Markpoint

10 Repeat 6 to 9 for each target

11 Choose a Markpoint ether by making HUD SOI and DMS up short or using the STEER rocker switch on the UFC

12 Make right MFCD SOI

13 China hat forward long to slew Maverick to Markpoint target SPI

14 TMS forward short to lock Maverick, keep TMS forward short until Maverick locks

15 Fire Maverick

16 Repeat step 11 for each Markpoint, then 14 and 15

Full throttle then get the hell out of there

Correct me if I'm wrong.

In step 4 of the Mav. procedure you sent me when you say "or press FUNC then 8 MARK on the UFD". Do you mean the (FUNC) function KEY (Fn) on the Keyboard ? You have UFD, did you mean UFC for the Front Panel above the Fire Warning? Britt007 when I pressed my Fn Key on my keyboard and then 8 MARK on the UFC a Number [8] showed up in brackets on the bottom

center of the HUD. Is that a good sign that I pressed the right combination to put the steerpoint switch into Markpoint mode ?

Thanks

I'd like to be able to leave the MAV as SOI, quickly switch to each markpoint, have the Mav automatically lock onto its target, fire and get out of Dodge. I'm just not sure of the advantage of entering the FPLAN and creating Steerpoints from the markpoints per the Video? If you stay in the markpoint mode, aren't those steerpoints? Now with that said, I guess I'm not clear on the functional differences between markpoints, steerpoints and waypoints. I have noticed that the SPI doesn't necessarily carry over to the next markpoint, but that may just be me. Does converting markpoints to steerpoints solve that problem?

To clarify, the video wasn't a tutorial of how things should be done at each and every target engagement, it was just showing the capabilities of the CDU per Chrisakky's post.

To each (group) their own flavor.

As far as the FPLAN goes, there are tons who have (by far) more expertise/experience than I...but on the surface it seems like a pretty handy tool to use in an AFAC role.

I'm sure the A-10 gurus can/will give better info regarding it.

The UFD is the Up Front Display, also known as the UFC Up Front Controller, I have seen it called both, just below the HUD, one with all the buttons on.

Then FUNC button is the round button on the UFC with FUNC written on it.

The 8 MARK button is the square number 8 button on the UFC with MARK written under it.
