Hey I have noticed that the smoke(red and/or green) does not show up in my training and missions. Is there a fix for this?

Is the OP not maybe referring to smoke markers on the ground designating targets?

This is correct. I'm referring to the smoke markers on the ground that should appear in training on the range.

As a benchmark, can you confirm that the smoke-markers are absent in the first quick-start mission?

If so, I would suggest a reinstall in order to eliminate the SIM as a source of the issue.

Can anyone tell me the name of the file and the directory in which it should be located so I can verify? Again just to clarify in training missions and in the first Quick Start Mission when "The Hammer" says "The targets are marked with red smoke", I don't see any smoke at all.

So I have tried the following;

1. Uninstall my Steam version of A-10 1.1.1.1

2. Downloaded and installed ED version and still no smoke markers 1.1.1.1

3. Downloaded and re-installed Steam version 1.1.1.1 and still no smoke markers

Again these are the smoke markers that should appear in training mode when The Hammer says "The target should be marked with red smoke."

Hm, I've heard of similar issues previously - but then it was the ATI/Nvidia configuration was overriden by the user.

Resetting all the graphics settings for the GPU helped.

Could it be that you tried a obscure "more FPS" mod previously on your install that changed some settings that are not changeable within the menu of DCS ?

Please post your options.lua and/or check if effects are set to on.

Effects was set at 2 by default. I changed it to 3 and that fixed it. The smoke now appears in the training mission. THANKS PETER!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Big Rep inbound!

Unfortunately I have given you too much rep already and I need to spread my rep around more. If I could, I would give you 5 Reps! You deserve it. Always helpful and courteous.

Thanks -

BTW: I'm sure it was at 3 by default. - but it wasn't overwritten by the new installation.

Most of this kind of problems can be fixed by deleting/moving the "Config" folder in your "saved games" - instead of doing a complete new install.

When this folder(s) are deleted manually, DCS will create a new one on the next start-up and all settings a reverted back to default.

So, prior to a complete new install, people should always move their Files in their "saved games " folder to see if this will fix the problems.

Example: Renaming the the "Config" folder to "Config DCS 1.1.1.1 Backup" will do the trick. While keeping your self-made/downloaded missions and tracks in place.

Further: - this should be a mandatory procedure before applying a new patch!

Is there a list of files, folders, registry items to check for when removing the game to make sure everything is removed?

Just clean up your "saved games" folder in your user-path after de-installation.

And if you don't plan to reinstall it again you can also remove the Starforce-protection:

http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/

following this instruction above should wipe all DCS leftovers fully from your system, and there is no need to go into your registry and make some manual changes to it .
