wess24m Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I'm not sure it actually targets troops... may be secondary explosions from the Vehicles kill them? Need to re-check in 1.2.2 but in DCS A-10C 1.1.1.1 they even seem to priorize on armor, ok they often hit one target multiple times, though. Wind coorection is modelled correctly AFAIK, but only until the Dispenser opens, which with the Parachutes of the 97/105 leads to quite a margin of error with drift. The idea to put the CCRP release point a bit downwind is not that bad. If the targets are moving you need to consider a point in front of them with enough time to rise and acquire targets...:D I haven't tried the 97's against troops in 1.2.2. The last update before world I was playing (I believe it was on station?) and we were dropping 97's on only troops in the tree line. Maybe we're not giving the little skeet's enough credit as far as heat seeking ability. :smartass

If I understood the advertisment of Textron correct it should not actively target infantry... :music_whistling: Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
PFunk1606688187 Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I assume then that the smaller fragments that form at the outside of the shaped charge are meant for... collateral from all the russian soldiers that love to ride on BTRs? :P When I asked how they do it, the answer was "combat offset" or kentucky windage. Did he happen to mention if this is CCIP or CCRP? I imagine it'd be maddening trying to compensate for leading a moving target AND for the windage of the deployed parachutes, especially if neither was in remotely the same offset direction while using CCRP. Correct left for wind, correct forward for moving vehicles, and if you're in CCRP mode you have to wait at least a few seconds before getting into firing mode. I'm pretty sure if you're doing offest for movement and windage you're probably doing it in CCIP where you can literally roll onto the target and pick your offset point based on the dive and movement. If it were a CCRP SPI I imagine it could make you abort constantly if the vehicles changed direction or you didn't account properly for how long til release point. So my question is, are WCMD's corrected for wind in CCIP or just CCRP? Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.
Nerull Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 As stated previously, HOF and RPM settings are of importance. Herewith an illustration of the extreme deployment scenarios possible when tinkering with the RPM/HOF settings - this and everything inbetween, depending on whether you are hunting elephant or budgie, there's a setting to suit all. Tried a 700f HOF with 1000RPM and killed 3 tanks with 2 CBU-97s! I 've never been this happy after dropping a pair of CBU's :) 2 was probably overkill but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for the advise guys. Now I just need to get the wind correction thingy in my head and apply it.
