I'm in Phuket which is just north of there. Luckily, I'm too broke to afford a beach home.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Actually 3 hours ago and the waves supposed to hit us around 6:18 pm-that's 18 minutes from now.

Even though the quake is massive compared to the one that caused the tsunami that killed hundred of thousands seven years ago, this one happened pretty deep in the ocean so I'm thinking no major tsunami?

Bruce Presgrave of the USGS told the BBC that the quake was caused by the earth moving horizontally, rather than vertically, therefore had not displaced large volumes of water.

"We can't rule out the possibility, but horizontal motion is less likely to produce a destructive tsunami," he said.

I only pray that it will not be as severe as in 2004
